The World Council of Churches (WCC) is gathering a group of experts and practitioners on Overcoming Racism, Racial Discrimination and Xenophobia for a pre-Assembly consultation on 6-10 December, in Geneva.

Statistics gathered by the UN in 2017 indicated that 87,000 women were killed because of their gender. Of those murders, 58 percent – 137 women each day - were killed by a member of their own family or intimate partner. The onset of Covid-19 has exacerbated the violence, so much so, that by September 2020, 121 countries instituted and adopted new measures to provide support and/or care for women survivors of violence as part of their Covid-19 response plans.

This webinar will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth (on 19 August 1921) of Philip Potter, World Council of Churches general secretary from 1972 to 1984, and a pivotal figure in the ecumenical movement from the very beginnings of the WCC at its 1st Assembly in Amsterdam in 1948 when he was the spokesperson for youth.

The World Council of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation are collaborating to host a joint event on human trafficking. The event will take place on 30 July 2021, the World Day Against Trafficking in persons. This day provides an opportunity to sound the alarm about the horrible crime of human trafficking as well as for governments, faith based organizations and other partners to reaffirm their commitment to end this gross violation of human rights.
