The 16 Days Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign that begins on 25 November, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and ends on 10 December, Human Rights Day. This year, the World Council of Churches is raising awareness on the tragic reality of Missing and Murdered Women, raising voices of faith and justice, and facilitating Biblical reflection on the root causes of sexual and gender-based violence.

Missing and Murdered: Addressing Femicide and Sexual and Gender-based Violence in our Global Context

25 November - 02 December 2021

Join us in two online meetings addressing the shadow pandemic of femicide and sexual and gender-based violence. Statistics gathered by the UN in 2017 indicated that 87,000 women were killed because of their gender. Of those murders, 58 percent – 137 women each day - were killed by a member of their own family or intimate partner. The onset of Covid-19 has exacerbated the violence, so much so, that by September 2020, 121 countries instituted and adopted new measures to provide support and/or care for women survivors of violence as part of their Covid-19 response plans.

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

18 - 25 January 2022

The theme for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity in 2022 was chosen by the Middle East Council of Churches: "We saw the star in the East, and we came to worship him." (Mt 2:2) More than ever, in these difficult times, we need a light that shines in the darkness and that light, Christians proclaim, has been manifested in Jesus Christ.
