ÖRK-Delegation besucht Zentrum für humanitäre Hilfe in Moskau und Theologische Akademie in Sergijew Possad

Während ihrer Reise nach Moskau hat eine Delegation des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) das Zentrum für humanitäre Hilfe besucht, eine Kircheninitiative, die im März 2022 nach Beginn des Kriegs in der Ukraine ihre Arbeit aufgenommen hat. Die meisten der Geflüchteten aus der Ukraine, die in Moskau ankommen, haben Freunde oder Verwandte in der russischen Hauptstadt. Trotzdem sind sie auf umfassende Unterstützung angewiesen. Jeden Tag wenden sich ca. 500 Menschen an das Flüchtlingszentrum und bitten um Hilfe. In dieser Anlaufstelle für Geflüchtete erhalten sie Artikel des täglichen Bedarfs, Grundnahrungsmittel, Hygieneartikel und – falls sie Kinder haben – die wichtigste Grundausstattung für den Nachwuchs. Viele der Menschen, die zu dem Flüchtlingszentrum kommen, leiden an psychologischen Problemen und müssen traumatische Erlebnisse verarbeiten. Nach einem ersten Gespräch werden sie an fachärztliche Praxen überwiesen.

WCC delegation visits Humanitarian Aid Center in Moscow and Theological Academy in Sergiev Posad

During its travels in Moscow, a World Council of Churches (WCC) delegation visited the Humanitarian Aid Center, a church initiative which started in March 2022, after the beginning of the war in Ukraine. Most of the refugees from Ukraine who arrive in Moscow have friends or relatives in the Russian capital. Nevertheless, their need is great. Around 500 people knock at the door of the Refugee Centre every day. At the refugee drop-in centre, they receive daily necessities, basic food, products for personal hygiene and, if they do have children, the necessary basic equipment for them. Many of the people who come to the drop-in centre suffer from psychological problems and traumatic experiences. After initial treatment, they are referred to professionals.

WCC acting general secretary visits Moscow

World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca visited Moscow this week, meeting with H.H. Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and all Russia, and representatives from the largest WCC member church.

WCC, CEC letter to OSCE chairman urges avoiding further escalation in Nagorno-Karabakh

Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca and Dr Jørgen Skov Sørensen, general secretary of the Conference of European Churches, jointly appeal for urgent action by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe to promote a just and sustainable peace in the Caucasus, following renewed violence in the region in which more than 100 lives have already been lost.

Green Village: Sale of land and office building and start of second development phase

Convinced by the innovative and sustainable concepts initiated by the World Council of Churches and Implenia, the leading Swiss construction and real estate services provider, Swiss Life Investment Foundation has bought a land plot on the Green Village estate and the Kyoto office building, which will have a gross floor area of some 14,000 m². Green Village, the real estate development project in the heart of the Quartier des Nations in Geneva, has successfully achieved a further milestone towards completion of its first phase.

An opening press conference for the World Council of Churches (WCC) 11th Assembly was held on 31 August as the assembly began in Karlsruhe, Germany. Hundreds of media representatives were present both in person and online to listen to and interact with a panel comprised of WCC leadership and local hosts.

Diversity of gifts celebrated by Ecumenical Youth Gathering

An Ecumenical Youth Gathering held 27 August helped to usher in the World Council of Churches 11th Assembly with a spirit of praying, dancing, and singing, as more than 200 young people drew together at St Stephen’s Church in Karlsruhe, Germany, to assert an inclusive assembly ahead.
