Moreover, recurrent missile attacks close to the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant risk catastrophe for people throughout the whole region,” Sauca said.

Sauca reiterated the appeals issued by the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe in September 2022 to respect the principles of international humanitarian law, especially with regard to the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure. The appeals also urge all parties to refrain from military action in the vicinity of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.

Again, we join in prayer for all the victims of this tragic conflict, and of the ongoing missile attacks against civilian areas far from the battlefield,” said Sauca. We commend all those organizations, communities, and churches that are providing care and assistance to those affected by the violence. We appeal once more for an end to this deadly, destructive, and unjustifiable war against the people of Ukraine.”
