Media are invited to attend the graduation ceremony of the Emerging Peacemakers Forum on 13 July in the Main Hall of the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. In an exclusive interview, a prominent figure in the field of peace and justice, the former general secretary of National Council of Churches in Korea and former executive secretary for the Christian Conference of Asia, Rev. Hong-Jung Lee, shared insights into his journey and experiences working towards peace and justice in the Korean Peninsula. Drawing on his extensive experience and involvement in various ecumenical organizations, he shed light on the importance of healing, reconciliation, and the role of churches and Christians in advancing peace in Korea.

Rev. Dr Hyunju Bae represents the Presbyterian Church of Korea on the World Council of Churches central and executive committees and serves on the WCC Gender Advisory Group. She is a former professor of New Testament Studies at the Busan Presbyterian University, Republic of Korea, and now a co-president of the Korea Christian Environmental Movement Solidarity for Integrity of Creation.  Below, she reflects on a recent prayer vigil for peace, as well as other ecumenical activities in South Korea.

Le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) a, depuis le premier jour de la guerre en Ukraine et même dans les mois précédents, travaillé et prié sincèrement pour une solution pacifique au conflit et dans le monde entier. Dès le début, le COE a appelé à la fin immédiate des hostilités armées, à l'arrêt de la guerre et a également lancé un appel pour que cessent immédiatement les attaques aveugles et leurs répercussions sur les civils en Ukraine. Nouvelles du COE a rencontré en ligne le père prof. Ioan Sauca, secrétaire général par intérim du COE, afin d'obtenir les dernières informations sur le travail du COE.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) has, since the first day of the war in Ukraine and even in the months before, been working and praying earnestly for peace in this conflict and throughout the world. From the beginning, the WCC has called for an immediate end to armed hostilities, to stop the war and has appealed also for an immediate end to indiscriminate attacks with an escalating impact on civilians in Ukraine. WCC News met online with the WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca to get the latest update on the work of the WCC.

Із самого початку ВРЦ закликала до негайного припинення воєнних дій, закінчення війни, а також до негайного припинення нападів невибіркового характеру, від яких дедалі більше страждають мирні громадяни в Україні. Пресслужба ВРЦ провела онлайн-зустріч з виконуючим обов'язки генерального секретаря ВРЦ преподобним професором д-ром Іоаном Саука, щоб дізнатися про останні новини щодо роботи ВРЦ.  

Le pasteur Frank Chikane : "On ne peut pas faire l'unité au détriment de la justice".

Lorsque le pasteur Frank Chikane était secrétaire général du Conseil des Églises d'Afrique du Sud pour dénoncer les injustices du régime de l'apartheid, son travail s’est poursuivi même après la démolition du bâtiment abritant les bureaux du Conseil dans les années 1980 suite à une bombe. Modérateur de la Commission des Églises pour les affaires internationales du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) depuis 2016, le pasteur Frank Chikane s'est engagé dans la lutte contre les injustices dans de nombreuses régions. Le département de communication du COE a demandé au pasteur Frank Chikane de revenir sur son mandat à la commission et sur l'appel permanent des églises à s'attaquer aux injustices dans le monde d'aujourd'hui.
