The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee will meet 15 July by videoconference to monitor plans for the 11th WCC Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2022 in the context of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“Living Christ’s love as part of His body in Africa is taking responsibility of peacebuilding, addressing injustice and its root causes.” This was the resolve of church leaders in Africa as they reflected on how churches in the continent are living the upcoming World Council of Churches (WCC) assembly theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.”

Young people have been challenged to envisage a future for the region and work together towards building a dynamic Pacific in preparation for the upcoming WCC 11th Assembly.

 



 

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is receiving a Bridge Builder Award for building bridges of understanding between people, nations, and communities at national and international levels. The award is presented by the Jury of the 14th August Committee Norway together with The Oslo Center.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) wrapped up its 65th central committee meeting in Geneva on 29 June, its first online session with many of proceedings carried out via video conference, and the moderator Dr Agnes Abuom declaring “we have agreed, basically, on the programme for 11th Assembly.”

With 124 of 155 central committee members and presidents from around the world present, the WCC central committee convened to advance preparations for the 11th WCC Assembly, taking place in 2022 in Karlsruhe, Germany under the theme “Christ’s love moves the world to reconciliation and unity.” The central committee also addressed membership matters and strengthened the WCC fellowship through prayer and sharing. 

The forthcoming 11th Assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC) is an opportunity for churches to proclaim a message of the good news of love and liberation, according the moderator of the WCC central committee, Dr Agnes Abuom.

In a video message, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians, extended greetings and blessings to the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, which met from 23-29 June via videoconference.

How will the churches use the wide range of new opportunities in the post-pandemic context? How will they call to faith and trust as we move beyond the global health crisis to a time of renewal? These were the core questions that representatives of the European region addressed during a discussion that took place at the World Council of Churches central committee meeting, 23-29 June.

The finale to a closing press conference during the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee meeting this week featured a special video invitation from hosting churches for the WCC 11th Assembly.

The hopes for better times to come in the aftermath of the pandemic were evident when World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee members from the Asia region gathered online 24 June to share recent experiences and prepare for a productive WCC assembly next year.

In a special message to World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee received on 27 June, H.B. John X, patriarch of the Greek Orthodox Church of Antioch and all the East, affirmed “closeness in prayer, and in accompanying the work of the meeting through the communication with the devoted delegates of the Holy and Apostolic Patriarchate of Antioch and all the East.”

During a virtual gathering, church leaders from the Caribbean shared a moment of prayer to prepare their discussions, which centered on the challenges facing  churches and communities. COVID-19, they shared, has exacerbated existing injustice for many people.
