Hundreds gathered in the Trinity Church in Oslo, Norway on 9 December for an ecumenical prayer for peace, in connection with the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.

Dr. Agnes Abuom, moderator of the WCC Central Committee, offered a speech entitled “A Clarion Christian Call to Justice and Peace: Ending Global Inequality and Climate injustice” at the Justice Conference in Oslo, Norway on 9 November.

Vor 70 Jahren wurde am 23. August der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen in Amsterdam gegründet. Der Festgottesdienst am 23. August in Amsterdam ist nur eine der zahlreichen Veranstaltungen, die der ÖRK, seine Mitgliedskirchen und Partner planen, um den Pilgerweg der Gerechtigkeit und des Friedens weiterzugehen und gleichzeitig diese 70 Jahre ökumenischen Strebens zu ehren und von ihnen zu lernen. Dr. Abuom, die Vorsitzende des ÖRK-Zentralausschusses, sprach in einem Interview über die Entwicklung des ÖRK in den letzten 70 Jahren.

It’s 70 years since the World Council of Churches was founded in Amsterdam on 23 August. In addition to a commemoration service in Amsterdam on 23 August, the WCC, its member churches and partners are planning a variety of events to move forward on our ongoing Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, and at the same time honour and learn from these 70 years of ecumenical endeavour. Dr Abuom, from the Anglican Church of Kenya, is the moderator of the WCC Central Committee. She is the first woman and the first African in the position in WCC’s history. In an interview, she reflects on the evolution of the WCC in the past 70 years.

Hace 70 años que se fundó el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias en Ámsterdam, el 23 de agosto. Además de un servicio de conmemoración que tendrá lugar en Ámsterdam el 23 de agosto, el CMI, sus iglesias miembros y asociados ecuménicos están preparando varios eventos para seguir avanzando en nuestra actual peregrinación de justicia y paz, y, al mismo tiempo, rendir homenaje a estos 70 años de labor ecuménica y aprender de ellos. Il y a 70 ans, le 23 août à Amsterdam, était fondé le Conseil œcuménique des Églises. Outre la célébration d'un office de commémoration le 23 août prochain à Amsterdam, le COE, ses Églises membres et ses partenaires prévoient d'organiser de nombreuses manifestations. Objectifs: poursuivre notre Pèlerinage de justice et de paix et, dans le même temps, honorer et tirer des leçons de ces 70 années d'efforts œcuméniques. Lors de la 10e Assemblée du COE, Agnes Abuom a été élue à l'unanimité présidente du Comité central du COE. Elle est la première femme et la première Africaine à occuper ce poste dans l'histoire du COE.

In einem Land, in dem Menschen christlichen Glaubens eindeutig in der Minderheit sind und oft unter Diskriminierung leiden, und in einem von wiederholten Spannungen und Konflikten zwischen Menschen unterschiedlicher religiöser Tradition bestimmten Kontext haben die Kirche von Norwegen und die Kirche von Pakistan vor kurzem in Pakistan ein neues ökumenisches Kapitel aufgeschlagen.

In a country where Christians are in clear minority, often suffering discrimination, and in a context that has seen repeated frictions and violence between people of different religious traditions, the Church of Norway and Church of Pakistan have broken new ecumenical ground during a recent week in Lahore, Pakistan.

Eine Plenarsitzung des ÖRK-Zentralausschusses befasste sich am 27. Juni mit der Frage, wie Religionsgemeinschaften sich für Kinderrechte engagieren können, und diskutierte den ihr vorgelegten Entwurf einer Erklärung mit dem Titel „Grundsätze für kinderfreundliche Kirchen“. Das Dokument soll nun weiter bearbeitet und dem ÖRK-Exekutivausschuss bei seiner nächsten Tagung erneut vorgelegt werden.

A plenary discussion on support by religious communities for the rights of children, and a first draft of the statement of “principles for child-friendly churches,” captured the imagination of the Central Committee of the WCC on 27 June. The document will now undergo further revision and be resubmitted at the next WCC executive committee meeting.

Une séance plénière sur le soutien des communautés religieuses aux droits des enfants, et un premier projet de déclaration à propos des «principes à l’intention des Églises respectueuses des enfants» ont mobilisé l’attention du comité central du COE le 27 juin. An “inter-generational dialogue on faith, culture, HIV and sexual reproductive health and rights” was initiated on 11 March in New York City by the World YWCA in partnership with the WCC and other international organizations. The dialogue was organized as a side event at the United Nations 58th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women.
