Borders and Migrants

On 20 May 2022, a group of us, 14 pilgrims from different parts of the world (Kenya, Brussels, Germany, Hong Kong, Philippines, Poland, Rome, Korea, Canada, Fiji, Australia, London, Scotland, and Geneva—a very diverse group) gathered in Palermo, Italy for a Pilgrim Team Visit on the theme of migration.

Dans une déclaration, le Comité exécutif du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) a affirmé son soutien en faveur des Églises du Soudan dans leur témoignage et leur ministère. Il s’y félicite d’une visite de solidarité œcuménique au Soudan du 20 au 25 avril effectuée conjointement par le COE, la Conférence des Églises pour toute l’Afrique et la Communauté fraternelle des Conseils et des Églises chrétiens dans la région des Grands Lacs et de la Corne de l’Afrique.

En una declaración, el Comité Ejecutivo del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) afirmó su apoyo a las iglesias de Sudán en su testimonio y ministerio. La declaración acoge con satisfacción la visita de solidaridad ecuménica a Sudán, realizada conjuntamente por el CMI, la Conferencia de Iglesias de Toda el África (AACC) y la Comunidad de Consejos Cristianos e Iglesias de los Grandes Lagos y el Cuerno de África (FECCLAHA), entre el 20 y el 25 de abril.

ÖRK-Exekutivausschuss bittet um Unterstützung und Weggemeinschaft mit Kirchen und Menschen im Sudan

In einer öffentlichen Erklärung versicherte der Exekutivausschuss des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) die Kirchen im Sudan seiner Unterstützung für ihr Zeugnis und ihren Dienst. Weiterhin begrüßte er darin den gemeinsam vom ÖRK, der Gesamtafrikanischen Kirchenkonferenz und der Gemeinschaft Christlicher Räte und Kirchen in der Region der Großen Seen und des Horns von Afrika unternommenen ökumenischen Solidaritätsbesuch im Sudan vom 20. bis 25. April 2022.

WCC executive committee urges “support and accompaniment to the churches and people of Sudan”

In a statement, the World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee affirmed its support for the churches of Sudan in their witness and ministry. The statement welcomed an ecumenical solidarity visit to Sudan on 20-25 April undertaken jointly by the WCC, All Africa Conference of Churches, and Fellowship of Christian Councils and Churches in the Great Lakes and the Horn of Africa.

WCC Pilgrim Team Visits accompany communities in Italy, Armenia, Norway

Three World Council of Churches (WCC) Pilgrim Team Visits, one to Italy, a second to Armenia and a third to Norway, are continuing the WCCs accompaniment for communities in their quest for justice and peace under the theme of Christs love moves the world to reconciliation and unity,” through the lenses of post-war trauma healing, gender justice, and migration.

WCC visit to Italy harvests examples of the churches’ unconditional support to refugees and migrants

The Central Mediterranean route is the overseas crossing from North Africa to Italy. Those migrating on this route generally aim to reach Italian shores but leave from a variety of North African countries bordering the Mediterranean. Though in past years most migrants have departed from Libya, which is a destination for migrants as well as a transit country, there is also a proportionally small but growing number of departures from Tunisia, Egypt, and Algeria.

Tras conocerse la concesión del Premio Nobel de la Paz a los periodistas Maria Ressa y Dmitry Muratov, el secretario general en funciones del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), Rev. Prof. Dr. Ioan Sauca, felicitó a los galardonados y expresó su solidaridad con su lucha constante por la justicia y la paz.
