During a panel discussion at the meeting of three World Council of Churches (WCC) commissions on 5 March, speakers explored the theme “Climate emergency—churches responding in faith and hope.” The panel was moderated by Archbishop Rev. Julio Murray Thompson, who also moderates the Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development, which organized the panel.

Three World Council of Churches (WCC) commissions—the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, Commission on Health and Healing, and Commission on Climate Justice and Sustainable Development—are jointly meeting from 5-8 March in Geneva to explore the theme "Faith and Effective Witness and Diakonia in the 21st Century.”

The World Council of Churches (WCC), with the Laudato Si’ Movement and other partners, will cohost a seminar in Assisi, Italy, on 15-16 March. Entitled "The Feast of Creation and the Mystery of Creation: Ecumenism, Theology, Liturgy, and Signs of the Times in Dialogue,” the event aims to deepen the collective understanding and appreciation of the Feast of Creation, observed on 1 September.

At the World Social Forum 2024, taking place 15-19 February in Nepal, the World Council of Churches (WCC) will have an active role in this platform for the convergence of a diverse range of participants, including social movements, laborers, farmers, civil society groups, marginalized communities, and those affected by the impacts of neoliberal capitalism and privatization. 

As the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting commenced in Davos beginning 15 January, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay urged the gathering to renew its commitment to multilateral cooperation for the longer-term good of all people. 

The forum is convening under the theme “Rebuilding Trust.” 

In a message after COP28, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay reflected more deeply on the disappointments, successes, and future agenda related to climate justice.

Aunque la vigésimo octava Conferencia de las Partes de la Convención Marco de las Naciones Unidas sobre el Cambio Climático (COP28) no logró producir un plan creíble para eliminar gradualmente los combustibles fósiles, todavía hay motivos para abrigar la esperanza de que el mundo podrá avanzar hacia la justicia climática, dijo el secretario general del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias, el Rev. Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, al concluir la COP28.

Si la COP28 n’a pas accouché d’un plan crédible pour sortir progressivement des combustibles fossiles, il demeure des raisons d’espérer que le monde puisse avancer vers la justice climatique, a indiqué le secrétaire général du Conseil œcuménique des Églises, le pasteur Jerry Pillay à la fin de la COP28.

Die COP28 habe zwar keinen glaubwürdigen Plan zum allmählichen Ausstieg aus fossilen Brennstoffen geliefert, doch es bestehe trotzdem die Hoffnung, dass die Welt sich der Klimagerechtigkeit zuwende, sagte der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay zum Abschluss der COP28.
