As a search continued for missing migrants after a fishing boat capsized off the coast of Greece, the World Council of Churches (WCC) conveyed prayers to the families of victims, and to the churches in Greece and elsewhere that are responding.

Der 38. Deutsche Evangelische Kirchentag, der vom 7. bis 11. Juni in Nürnberg, Deutschland, stattfindet, legt einen besonderen Schwerpunkt auf Themen wie den Krieg in der Ukraine und den Umweltschutz. Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen ist mit einem Stand auf dem „Markt der Möglichkeiten (Halle 9, Ausstellungsbereich, Messezentrum) vertreten und will interessante Begegnungen ermöglichen und die Gelegenheit bieten, sich über die ökumenische Bewegung zu informieren.

Traitant de sujets tels que la guerre en Ukraine et la protection du climat, le 38^e Kirchentag, grand rassemblement des protestant-e-s allemand-e-s, se déroule du 7 au 11 juin, à Nuremberg, en Allemagne. La présence du Conseil œcuménique des Églises dans la salle d’exposition du Kirchentag, le «Marché des possibles», (hall 9, stand 9-C32) permet des rencontres dynamiques et donne la possibilité d’en apprendre davantage sur le mouvement œcuménique.

With the topics of the war in Ukraine and climate protection as the focal points, the 38th German Protestant Kirchentag takes place in Nuremberg, Germany from 7 to 11 June. The World Council of Churches’ presence in the Kirchentag’s exhibition space “Market of Opportunities” (hall 9, stand 9-C32) enables lively encounters and an opportunity to learn more about the ecumenical movement.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay served as a keynote speaker at the Ninth Conference for Research in Diakonia and Christian Social Practice, hosted by the International Society for the Research and Study of Diakonia and Christian Social Practice and VID Specialized University. The theme of the conference was “Contested Spaces of Diaconia – Seeking Justice, Safety and Well-Being.”

Während des Besuchs der Delegation des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) im Mai in der Ukraine, wurde am 12. Mai in Butscha in der Umgebung von Kyiv ein ökumenischer Gebetsgottesdienst abgehalten. Der Gottesdienst wurde von der Leitung der ÖRK-Führungsdelegation – Generalsekretär des ÖRK Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, Vorsitzenden der ÖRK-Zentralausschusses Bischof Heinrich Bedford-Strohm sowie Erzbischof Vicken Aykazian – mit der Teilnahme der Ukrainischen Rates der Kirchen und religiöser Organisationen (Ukranian Council of Chuches and Religious Organizations, UCCRO) in der orthodoxen St.-Andreas-Kirche in Butscha abgehalten. 

Au cours du voyage d’une délégation de la direction du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) en Ukraine, au cours du mois de mai, un service de prières œcuménique s’est tenu le 12 mai à Boutcha, en banlieue de Kyiv. Le service, dirigé par la direction du COE, le pasteur Jerry Pillay, secrétaire général du COE, l’évêque Heinrich Bedford-Strohm, président Comité Central du COE et l’archevêque Vicken Aykazian, avec la participation de membres du Conseil des Églises et organisations religieuses d’Ukraine (UCCRO), a eu lieu en l’église orthodoxe Saint Andrew à Boutcha. 

During the World Council of Churches (WCC) leadership delegation visit to Ukraine in May, an ecumenical prayer service was held in Bucha, on the outskirts of Kyiv, on 12 May. The service, led by the WCC leadership, WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, WCC moderator Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm and Archbishop Vicken Aykazian, with participation of members of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (UCCRO), took place at St Andrew Orthodox Church in Bucha.

Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) hat mit einer Botschaft während eines Gottesdienstes am 28. Mai im Kloster von Timios Prodromos, Akritochori, Griechenland des vor einem Jahr verstorbenen Metropoliten Gennadios von Sassima gedacht, ehemals stellvertretender ÖRK-Vorsitzender.

Le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) a prononcé un message commémoratif lors de la célébration du 28 mai au monastère de Timios Prodromos, à Akritochori (Grèce), un an après la disparition du métropolite Gennadios de Sassima, ancien vice-président du COE.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) delivered a memorial message at a service held 28 May at the Monastery of Timios Prodromos, Akritochori, Greece, marking one year since the death of Metropolitan Gennadios of Sassima, former WCC vice moderator.
