5 September 2022, Karlsruhe, Germany: Junyoub Lee joins in a prayer service for peace and reunification between South and North Korea at St. Stephan Church in Karlsruhe as part of the World Council of Churches' 11th Assembly. The assembly takes place August 31 to September 8 under the theme "Christ's Love Moves the World to Reconciliation and Unity."

The statement also notes that inter-Korean relations have experienced a major deterioration since the abrupt and inconclusive end of the US-North Korea Summit in Hanoi in 2019. This deterioration was exemplified by North Koreas demolition of an inter-Korean liaison office in June 2020,” reads the text. Compounded by the closure of borders following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, a complete breakdown of communication between the governments, private organizations, civil society, and churches in North and South Korea has ensued.”

The WCC central committee usually meets every two years and serves as the chief governing body of the WCC between assemblies. This years meeting is the first since the central committee was elected at the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany, in 2022.
