WCC hosts interface conference in Berlin on role of churches, faith communities in health and healing

The World Council of Churches (WCC) hosted an interface conference on 13 October between the WCC, EKD, German Federal Foreign Office, Trans-Atlantic Network and Berlin-based diplomats to discuss the vital role that the WCC, churches and faith communities around the globe play in advancing peoples health and healing, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Le Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) a accueilli le 13 octobre une conférence d’interface entre le COE, l’Église évangélique en Allemagne (EKD), le ministère fédéral allemand des Affaires étrangères, le Réseau transatlantique et divers diplomates basés à Berlin pour discuter du rôle vital que le COE, les Églises et les communautés religieuses du monde entier jouent dans la promotion de la santé et de la guérison des personnes, en particulier dans le contexte des suites de la pandémie de COVID-19.

El Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) acogió el 13 de octubre una conferencia intersectorial entre el CMI, la EKD, el Ministerio Federal de Asuntos Exteriores de Alemania y la Red Transatlántica, y diplomáticos con sede en Berlín para debatir el papel vital que desempeñan el CMI, las iglesias y las comunidades religiosas de todo el mundo en la promoción de la salud y la sanación de las personas, especialmente tras la pandemia de la COVID-19.

ÖRK veranstaltet Schnittstellenkonferenz in Berlin über Rolle von Kirchen und Glaubensgemeinschaften in Sachen Gesundheit und Heilung

Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) veranstaltete am 13. Oktober eine Schnittstellenkonferenz zwischen ÖRK, EKD, dem deutschen Auswärtigen Amt, dem Transatlantiknetzwerk und in Berlin ansässigen Diplomatinnen und Diplomaten, um über die wichtige Rolle zu sprechen, die der ÖRK, die Kirchen und die Glaubensgemeinschaften weltweit bei der Förderung von Gesundheit und Heilung, vor allem im Hinblick auf die Nachwirkungen der COVID-19-Pandemie, spielen.

Evangelical Church in Germany calls for quick and fair withdrawal from fossil fuels

Seven Weeks for Water 2018, week 6: "The open taps in Latin America", by Prof. Dr Jerónimo Granados

The sixth reflection of the of the "Seven Weeks for Water", of World Council of Churches’ Ecumenical Water Network, is by Prof. Dr Jerónimo Granados, an ordained pastor of the Evangelical Church of Río de La Plata. The following reflection recognises the promise of living water, the water that quenches the thirst of the world for Jesus Christ. However, he underscores the importance of the clean water to run through taps of people of Latin America which is vital for a dignified life. He also draws inspiration from the “Pachamama” of the native people of this region to respect and protect our waters.

Tveit: “We need the wisdom of creation”

In a sermon during a worship service for climate justice in Bonn, Germany, on 12 November, World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit called for wisdom. “There is a need for wisdom, a desperate need for wisdom in our world today,” he said, “a wisdom that is seeing and understanding the reality, discerning the times in which we live, and a wisdom that has the courage to say that something was wrong, the courage to act in a new way, preparing for the future together.”

Hundreds of pilgrims making way to UN Climate Change Conference

World leaders will meet at the crucial United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP 21) in Paris from 30 November to 11 December. Faith groups around the world are building awareness of the importance of reaching a binding and ambitious agreement at the talks. In October, WCC members have taken part in climate activities in Germany.
