WCC General Recommendations for UN PFPAD Third Session (16-19 April 2024)

The World Council of Churches (WCC), a global fellowship of 352 churches representing more than half a billion Christians from around the world, has been deeply involved in the work of the United Nations from as early as 1946 through its Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA). The WCC is a platform for common action by churches on issues that negate or threaten the dignity of all people.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay marked 11 January as a significant moment for justice and the rule of law,” as public hearings commenced in the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on allegations against the State of Israel of violations of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

Statement: Religious Leaders Unite for Climate Peace in Solidarity with Refugees

Reinforcing the traditional role of faith communities in offering sanctuary and, indeed hospitality to refugees, 90 faith-based leaders today committed to offering their continued and additional support to refugees, including children, on their journey to safety, including in reception and admission, meeting protection or service delivery needs and supporting communities to find solutions such as private sponsorship or scholarship programmes.

Declaración sobre Nigeria en el contexto regional africano

Durante la reunión del Comité Ejecutivo del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) en Abuja (Nigeria), del 8 al 14 de noviembre, el órgano rector publicó una declaración en la que reconocía su gran admiración por la “asombrosa diversidad de culturas, lenguas y religiones” de Nigeria y hacía un llamado al gobierno nigeriano a hacer un mayor esfuerzo para reparar las injusticias económicas y otros graves problemas que afectan a la nación.

Erklärung zu Nigeria, im regionalen Kontext Afrikas

Im Rahmen der Exekutivausschusstagung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) vom 8. bis 14. November in Abuja, Nigeria, veröffentlichte das Leitungsgremium eine Erklärung, in der es die „erstaunliche Vielfalt von Kulturen, Sprachen und Religionen“ in Nigeria würdigte und die nigerianische Regierung aufforderte, sich mit der wirtschaftlichen Ungerechtigkeit und anderen schwerwiegenden Problemen des Landes auseinanderzusetzen.

Déclaration sur le Nigeria, dans le contexte régional de l’Afrique

À l’occasion de sa réunion du 8 au 14 novembre à Abuja, au Nigeria, le Comité exécutif du Conseil œcuménique des Églises a publié une déclaration soulignant «la diversité étonnante de cultures, de langues et de religions» au Nigeria — et appelant également le gouvernement du Nigeria à combattre les injustices économiques et d’autres graves difficultés auxquelles la nation est confrontée.
