El Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) está aportando sus oraciones y su experiencia a la vigésimo tercera sesión del Foro Permanente para las Cuestiones Indígenas de la ONU, que tiene lugar del 15 al 26 de abril en Nueva York.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is bringing prayers and expertise to the 23rd session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Peoples, which is running in New York from 15-26 April. 

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, on behalf of the global fellowship, expressed grave concern regarding the recent escalation of violence in the Middle East following the first direct confrontation between Iran and Israel.

Bishop Dr Heinrich Bedford-Strohm and H.E. Archbishop Dr Vicken Aykazian, moderator and vice moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, respectively, traveled to New York City on 3-4 April to deepen the WCC’s engagement with the United Nations. 

On the 2024 International Day of Human Fraternity, observed 5 February, special events—including the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity—focused on bridging divides and promoting a culture of peace. 

La Sexta Conferencia Mundial de Fe y Constitución del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) –que conmemorará el 1700º aniversario del Primer Concilio Ecuménico de Nicea– tendrá lugar en Egipto en octubre de 2025 por invitación de la Iglesia Ortodoxa Copta. 

The Sixth World Conference on Faith and Order of the World Council of Churches (WCC), marking the 1700th anniversary of the first Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, is to take place in Egypt in October 2025 at the invitation of the Coptic Orthodox Church.

World Council of Churches general secretary Rev. Prof Dr Jerry Pillay extended condolences and expressed solidarity with the victims of a mass shooting in Jacksonville, Florida (USA).

El rector iraní Ayatollah M. Seyed Abolhassan Nawab y la Sra. Zahra Sedigh, de la Misión iraní ante la ONU, visitaron el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) el 27 de julio, para hablar de educación y formación, así como de la importancia de reforzar el papel de la cooperación interreligiosa.

Iranian rector Ayatollah M. Seyyed Abolhassan Nawab and Ms Zahra Sedigh, from the Iranian Mission to the UN, visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) on 27 July, discussing education and formation, as well as the importance of strengthening the role of interreligious cooperation.

El 7 de marzo, los representantes de diversos grupos religiosos y étnicos de Iraq participaron en el encuentro “Vivir Juntos”, celebrado en Bagdad, y se reunieron con el presidente de Irak, su excelencia el Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, para exponerle sus preocupaciones y abordar los desafíos que plantea la diversidad religiosa y étnica en el país.

Con motivo del acto de apertura de la consulta “Vivir Juntos” el 6 de enero en Bagdad, los dirigentes religiosos y étnicos de Irak celebraron la diversidad, al tiempo que abordaron con franqueza los desafíos que se plantean para lograr una ciudadanía inclusiva. Representantes de las autoridades ejecutivas y legislativas iraquíes, así como de los organismos de la ONU y las embajadas, también participaron en el acto. 

Sanctions should not harm the support for the most vulnerable, says a report on the impact of sanctions on humanitarian work presented at a side-event of 52nd session at the Human Rights Council of the United Nations in Geneva on 10 March.

On 7 March, participants of the “Living Together” meeting in Bagdad representing various religious and ethnic groups of the country met with the president of Iraq His Excellency Dr. Abdullatif Jamal Rashid, presenting their concerns and challenges for religious and ethnic diversity in Iraq.

As a “Living Together” celebration in Bagdad opened on 6 March, religious and ethnic leaders from Iraq celebrated diversity and, at the same time, candidly addressed challenges to inclusive citizenship. They were joined by representatives of Iraqi executive and legislative authorities as well as representatives from UN agencies and embassies.
