African women church leaders: “Where is there justice today?”

As African women church leaders gathered last week for an inaugural “Ecumenical Women’s Initiative for Leadership and Learning”, they lamented grave injustices, celebrated women pioneers, and nurtured a spirit of solidarity they hope will blaze a global trail for the future.

In einem gemeinsam veröffentlichten Kommuniqué bekräftigten die 50 Teilnehmenden, dabei Delegierte aus 20 östlich-orthodoxen und orientalisch-orthodoxen Kirchen, auf einer interorthodoxen Vorbereitungskonsultation letzte Woche „die äußerst große Bedeutung der Liebe“ sowie den „Ruf nach Einheit, Versöhnung, Gerechtigkeit und Frieden“.

World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca expressed the revulsion of the global fellowship of churches at the murder of Deborah Yakubu, a second-year college student beaten to death and burnt by a group of her fellow students in Sokoto, northern Nigeria.

This publication contains some of the components of the final spiritual-life resource that will be used at the assembly. It invites assembly participants and the wider fellowship to celebrate the love of God that we find in Christ through prayer, song, and reflecting on Jesus’ preaching and healing as portrayed in the Gospels.

Prof. Dr Isabel Apawo Phiri, WCC deputy general secretary, was featured in an episode of African Catholic Voices podcast, a service of the Pan-African Theology and Pastoral Network. The episode, which aired 3 May, focuses on Phiris call on the churches in Africa to embrace life-affirming practices and reject all life-denying cultural, institutional, and denominational practices that harm God's people.

Die Kirche von Zypern begrüßt Vertreterinnen und Vertreter orthodoxer Kirchen aus der ganzen Welt zum gemeinsamen Gebet

Als lokaler Gastgeber der Veranstaltung begrüßte das Oberhaupt der Kirche von Zypern, Erzbischof Chrysostomos II.  am 12. Mai, dem Fest des heiligen Epiphanius, Mitglieder der Interorthodoxen Vorbereitungskonsultation des Ökumenischer Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) in seinem Amtssitz in Nikosia, Zypern. Bei der Konsultation wurden die Beiträge der Kirche von Zypern zur ökumenischen Bewegung sowie die Bestrebungen der Kirchen im Hinblick auf die Vereinigung der Insel gewürdigt, die seit der türkischen Invasion 1974 geteilt ist.

Church of Cyprus welcomes Orthodox from across the world to pray together

Local host and head of the Church of Cyprus, Archbishop Chrysostomos II, welcomed members of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Inter-Orthodox Pre-Assembly at his residence in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 12 May, the Feast of Saint Epiphanius. The meeting acknowledged contributions from the Church of Cyprus to the ecumenical movement, as well as the aspiration of churches to see a united island, partitioned as result of the Turkish invasion in 1974.
