In a contribution to the Church of Sweden’s publication “150 Years of International Engagement,” World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay celebrates the church’s vital legacy and reflects on its evolving character.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) hosted Bishop Dr Jukka Keskitalo and Rev. Pekka Mustakallio from the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland, to discuss the ecumenical agenda of 2023 and the harvesting of the WCC 11 th assembly, as well a group from the Centre for Ecumenism of the Protestant Church in Hesse and Nassau, and 21 ordinands from the Church of Sweden.

Diese volle Kirchengemeinschaft ist ein weiteres Zeichen unserer hoch geschätzten Gemeinschaft, die wir in diesen Zeiten so dringend brauchen. Unsere Partnerschaft, die sich mit den Herausforderungen des Klimawandels auseinandersetzt, Geflüchtete unterstützt und ethnische Gerechtigkeit will, verbindet uns besonders eng in unseren weltweiten ökumenischen Initiativen“, sagte Erzbischof  Michael Curry, Leitender Bischof und Primas der Episkopalkirche.

This full-communion agreement is one more sign of the beloved community that we so need in these times. Our partnership in addressing the challenges of climate change, supporting refugees, and racial justice binds us even more deeply to worldwide ecumenical efforts,” said Most Rev. Michael Curry, presiding bishop and primate of The Episcopal Church. 

In a visit to Rome, a World Council of Churches (WCC) delegation met with organizations that, as WCC general secretary Jerry Pillay said, “keep the fire of ecumenism burning.”

Eine Delegation des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) reist vom 22. bis 23. März nach Rom, um Papst Franziskus und andere römisch-katholische Führungspersonen zu treffen.

Der geschäftsführende Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Priester Prof. Dr. Ioan Sauca, hat Erzbischöfin Dr. Antje Jackelén, dem Oberhaupt der Kirche von Schweden, Dank für ihr Wirken ausgesprochen. Die Erzbischöfin wendet sich nach vielen Jahren des Dienstes nun neuen Aufgaben zu.

The Fifth International Conference on Receptive Ecumenism was held in Sigtuna, Sweden on 27-30 June, exploring the theme “Transforming Ecumenism – listen to what the Spirit is saying to the churches.” (Rev 2:7)

Als Höhepunkt der ersten Tage des Besuchs in der Region wurden der Delegation des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) diese Woche aussagekräftige Beispiele der Arbeit vorgestellt, die italienische ÖRK-Mitgliedskirchen zur Unterstützung von Flüchtlingen und Migrantinnen und Migranten leisten.

Die meisten dieser Initiativen werden von Frauen geleitet.
