Brazilian city joins “water diagram” initiative headed by Swiss Church Aid

The Brazilian municipality of Juiz de Fora has approved a cooperation agreement with Swiss Church Aid (HEKS/EPER), a member of the WCC’s Ecumenical Water Network (WCC-EWN), thus becoming part of an international working group that wants to contribute to good water management and management practices using a water flow diagram. The project also encompasses the city of Bern, Switzerland; Cape Town, in South Africa, and Rio Pardo de Minas, in Brazil.

Applications open for WCC Eco-School 2018 for Latin America and the Caribbean

The second edition of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Eco-School on Water, Food and Climate Justice will be held from 1-12 November 2018 in San Salvador, El Salvador. This year the Eco-School will focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Applications are now open with a deadline of 31 August 2018.

Mitglieder und Partner des Ökumenischen Wassernetzwerkes (ÖWN) des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) haben im Rahmen des Alternativen Weltwasserforum (Fórum Alternativo Mundial da Água, FAMA) die „Ökumenische Erklärung zum Wasser als Menschenrecht und als öffentliches Gut“ ratifiziert, die ursprünglich vor 13 Jahren veröffentlicht wurde.

WCC reaffirms water as God’s gift and a human right

Members and partners of the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network (WCC-EWN) at the Alternative World Water Forum (Forum Alternativo Mundial da Agua or FAMA, in Portuguese) ratified the “Ecumenical declaration on water as a human right and a public good,” originally released 13 years ago.

Sieben Wochen der Fastenzeit im Zeichen der Wassergerechtigkeit in Lateinamerika

Das Ökumenische Wassernetzwerk (ÖWN) des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) lädt anlässlich der Fastenzeit zu Reflexionen zum Thema Wasser ein. Seit 2008 veröffentlicht das ÖWN in den sieben Wochen der Fastenzeit wöchentlich und anlässlich des Weltwassertags am 22. März theologische Reflexionen und andere Materialien zum Thema Wasser. Dieses Jahr steht Lateinamerika im Mittelpunkt.

The World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network (WCC-EWN) invites you to use the season of Lent to reflect on water. Since 2008, EWN has been providing weekly theological reflections and other resources on water for the seven weeks of Lent and for World Water Day on 22 March. This year, the focus is on Latin America.

Friday evening when the leaders of the G20 states will be meeting in Hamburg and discussing global economic, social, environmental and political issues, the churches in Germany are inviting people in Germany and all over the world to a common peace prayer.

Ecumenical Water Network hosts Brazilian delegation

The World Council of Churches Ecumenical Water Network (WCC-EWN) hosted the Brazilian Semiarid Articulation (ASA) on 25 April for a dialogue on human rights and water justice in Brazil. Representatives of the EWN and the ASA discussed human rights within the framework of the right to water, and they also focused on alternatives for sustainable living offered by ASA.

New guide on climate justice and water released

“Water, food and climate justice are key to a sustainable future.” This was one of the key messages from the WCC Ecumenical Water Network at the recent general assembly of the Council of Presbyterian and Reformed Churches of Latin America, in Sao Paolo, Brazil, in mid-August. As part of its work on climate change and access to safe drinking water, AIPRAL released a new pedagogical tool at the assembly: the book “We are on Time”.

Das wasserreiche Brasilien bietet nicht allen Menschen einfachen Zugang zu sauberem Wasser

Auf der Liste der wasserreichsten Länder der Erde steht Brasilien weit oben. Es verfügt über zwölf Prozent der globalen Frischwasserreserven. Aber laut Magali do Nascimento Cunha steht ihr Land nicht so gut da, wenn es um die Verteilung des Wassers und um die sanitäre Grundversorgung geht.
