Die Pazifikinseln leiden nicht nur heute noch unter den dauerhaften Folgen der über einen Zeitraum von 50 Jahren durchgeführten Atomwaffentests, sondern sie sind auch die Region, in der die hochbrisanten Folgen des Klimawandels am schnellsten spürbar werden dürften. Dies erfuhr die Kommission der Kirchen für internationale Angelegenheiten (CCIA) des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen auf ihrer Tagung diese Woche in Brisbane.

Pacific islands experience lasting impacts of the 50 years of nuclear testing and the region has become a global hotspot of climate change, the World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission of Churches on International Affairs (CCIA) learned in its meeting this week in Brisbane, Australia.

Zu diesem informellen Dialog hatten sich religiöse Autoritäten mit Delegierten von Regierungen, der Zivilgesellschaft, der akademischen Welt und der Vereinten Nationen getroffen, um über die Finanzierung von Maßnahmen zur Anpassung an den Klimawandel und die damit einhergehenden Schäden und Verluste zu reden.

At an informal dialogue, faith leaders gathered with representatives from governments, civil society, academia, and the United Nations to talk about financing adaptation, and loss and damage, related to climate change.

Januar am Sitz der Vereinten Nationen in New York stattfand.

“Financing for sustainable development represents the expression of an ethic of solidarity and sharing, including with generations that come after us and who will inherit whatever good or evil we have wrought”, said Peter Prove, director of International Affairs at the World Council of Churches (WCC) in a symposium at the United Nations headquarters, in New York, on 29 January.

Am 17. Und 18. Mai sind Vertreterinnen und Vertreter verschiedener Religionsgemeinschaften, Theologinnen und Theologen, Wirtschaftswissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftler sowie Fachleute für Entwicklung und Ökumene in São Paulo (Brasilien) zum 3. Dialog über Ethik und Wirtschaft (Dialogue on Ethics and Economics) zusammengekommen. Ziel war es, eine gemeinsame Botschaft an die Staats- und Regierungschefs der G20-Staaten zu formulieren, die im Verlauf dieses Jahres in Argentinien zu einem Treffen zusammenkommen werden.

Between 17–18 May, representatives of several religious denominations, theologians, economists, and experts in development and ecumenism gathered in São Paulo, Brazil, for the 3rd Dialogue on Ethics and Economics. They aim to build a common message to G20 leaders who will meet in Argentina later this year.

The third meeting of the Ecumenical Panel on a New International Financial and Economic Architecture (NIFEA) is underway in New York City from 21-23 April.

Friday evening when the leaders of the G20 states will be meeting in Hamburg and discussing global economic, social, environmental and political issues, the churches in Germany are inviting people in Germany and all over the world to a common peace prayer.
