During the recent solidarity visit in Ukraine, a World Council of Churches (WCC) delegation has met with various state institutions working with religious issues, listening and learning from the victims of the ongoing war and asking for support in giving permission to the members of the delegation of Ukrainian Churches to leave the country and attend the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe. 

The World Council of Churches (WCC) expressed the solidarity of its worldwide fellowship with the people of Ukraine while meeting churches and state institutions during a visit to Ukraine from 1 – 5 August.

World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca expressed great concern in the wake of a 7.3-magnitude earthquake that struck the northern part of Luzon Island in the Philippines on 27 July.

Осуждая незаконную и неоправданную войну, «навязанную народу и суверенному государству Украины», Центральный комитет Всемирного совета церквей (ВСЦ) выразил сожаление по поводу «ужасающего и возрастающего числа жертв, разрушений и перемещений, разорванных отношений и еще более глубоко укоренившейся враждебности между народами этого региона, усиления конфронтации  глобального масштаба, повышенного риска голода в регионах с низким уровнем продовольственной безопасности, экономических трудностей, а также повышенной социальной и политической нестабильности во многих странах».

Der Zentralausschuss des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) verurteilt den illegalen und nicht zu rechtfertigenden Krieg, „der Menschen und dem souveränen Staat der Ukraine aufgebürdet wird, und beklagt, dass sehr viele Menschen durch Tod, Zerstörung und Vertreibung, durch zerstörte Beziehungen und die tief verwurzelte Feindschaft zwischen den Menschen in der Region, durch das gestiegene Risiko globaler Konfrontationen und einer Hungersnot in diversen Weltregionen, die schon jetzt von Ernährungsunsicherheit betroffen sind, und durch wirtschaftliche Not und gestiegene gesellschaftliche und politische Instabilität weltweit immer noch einen furchtbaren Preis zahlen.“

Déplorant la guerre illégale et injustifiable «infligée au peuple et à l’État souverain d’Ukraine», le Comité central du COE s’est lamenté du «bilan effroyable qui va en s’aggravant: la mort, la destruction et le déplacement des populations; la destruction des relations et un antagonisme de plus en plus profond entre les peuples de la région; les confrontations qui s’enveniment à travers le monde; le risque accru de famine dans les régions du monde touchées par l’insécurité alimentaire; ainsi que les difficultés économiques et l’exacerbation de l’instabilité sociale et politique dans de nombreux pays».

Deploring the illegal and unjustifiable war “inflicted on the people and sovereign state of Ukraine” the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee lamented “the awful and continuing toll of deaths, destruction and displacement, of destroyed relationships and ever more deeply entrenched antagonism between the people of the region, of escalating confrontation globally, of increased famine risk in food insecure regions of the world, of economic hardship and heightened social and political instability in many countries.”

In einer öffentlichen Erklärung hat der Exekutivausschuss des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen erneut einen Waffenstillstand in der Ukraine sowie eine Lösung für die zunehmende Ernährungsunsicherheit weltweit gefordert.

Dans une déclaration publique, le comité exécutif du Conseil œcuménique des Églises a réitéré la nécessité d'un cessez-le-feu en Ukraine et la nécessité de s'attaquer à l'insécurité alimentaire croissante dans le monde.

In a public statement, the World Council of Churches executive committee reiterated the need for a ceasefire in Ukraine, and the need for addressing growing food insecurity worldwide.

On the International Day of Living Together in Peace declared by the United Nations, members of the World Council of Churches (WCC) fellowship from countries troubled by war and conflict gathered to pray for sustainable peace in the world.
