Global child-led webinar on Africa Day of the Child explores perspectives on global financial justice

A webinar on 16 June, co-organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) in collaboration with partners, will highlight how children, often overlooked as victims of global injustice, possess the inherent power to ignite transformative change.

Fridays for Future is a worldwide movement born when Greta Thunberg started standing outside the Swedish parliament with a sign that said “school strike for climate” in August 2018. Other activists followed and it is now a worldwide movement with children all over the planet taking part. Many young people and families joined the demonstration with signs.

WCC's Engagement for Children

The online event, titled "Children's Pledge: Unveiling Perspectives on Global Financial Justice,” coincides with the commemoration of the Day of the African Child and will pay tribute to the brave participants of the 1976 Soweto Uprising.

"The webinar serves as a precursor to the child-driven side event at the forthcoming Summit for a New Global Financial Pact in Paris on 22-23 June,” says WCC senior advisor on Child Rights, Frederique Seidel, who added that the webinar promises to be a thought-provoking and impactful gathering.

The webinar will convene experts, activists, and young leaders from around the globe who are committed to championing the cause of global financial justice and children's rights.

Participants can engage in insightful discussions, gain invaluable perspectives, and explore innovative solutions to address children's challenges in an increasingly complex world. The webinar will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, and interactive sessions that will foster collaboration and inspire action.
