The general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, has written to member churches and ecumenical partners in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and worldwide to advise them of a communication falsely sent to them under his name.

The WCC, though not the general secretary, recently participated in a DRC strategy meeting of regional partners of the World Health Organization, with 47 African health ministers participating. Among health crises addressed there was the recent outbreak of Ebola in the Northeast of the DRC.

Tveit is currently in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, attending the Pentecostal World Conference.

The false correspondence claimed to be an urgent communication, was sent via a false email address and asked recipients to respond via telephone.
