The smiles of students graduating from the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey picking up their credentials showed they experienced something unique that will bind them as they return to their different corners of the world.

The newly formed World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on Education and Ecumenical Formation held its inaugural meeting, the first since the WCC 11th Assembly, on 19 October.

As a new academic year is officially underway, Bossey faculty and staff, together with 31 students from around the world gathered for an opening prayer service in the Bossey chapel on 13 September, embarking on what will be an intense period of ecumenical community building, academic learning, and discovering profound connectivity between them.

Lasting friendships and gleaning a wealth of knowledge are the abiding memory of students every year who graduate from the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Institute at Bossey outside Geneva.

The acting general secretary of the World Council of Churches, the Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, has been honoured by the WCC’s Ecumenical Institute at the Chateau de Bossey, where he has served 24 years on its faculty, and been its director since 2001.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee will meet for the first time in two years, 12-17 November, focusing on preparations for the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany in 2022, and celebrating 75 years of ecumenical formation at the Bossey Ecumenical Institute.

Rev. Dr Benjamin Simon became the World Council of Churches (WCC) programme executive for Church Relations in March 2020—just when the COVID-19 pandemic began to underscore the importance of bringing the WCC global fellowship together in new and creative ways.  

Alumni from the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Institute Bossey who live in Thailand are continuing to foster ecumenical activities and relations. Every year for a decade, they have offered a local orientation for new students from Thailand who are headed to Bossey.

On 17 June, six new master students finished their yearlong studies with the graduation ceremony of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Institute at Château de Bossey.

The WCC has welcomed four new programme executives.

Students graduating at mountain-framed Bossey on the banks of Lake Geneva have admitted that the decision to come to the WCC Ecumenical Institute was not easy, but they left as a family with proof "that Christian unity can be lived."
