The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee opened its meeting on 8 November with the opening celebrations in the Cathedral Church of the Advent, with prayers, goodwill messages, and a sermon by WCC president from Africa His Holiness Most Rev. Dr Rufus Okikiola Ositelu, of the Church of the Lord (Prayer Fellowship) Worldwide. 

The World Council of Churches (WCC) and International Committee of the Global Christian Forum, during a meeting held 2-5 November at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey, finalized plans for the a global gathering in 2024 in Accra, Ghana; renewed a five-year contract with Global Christian Forum secretary Casely Esssmuah; and signed a renewed memorandum of understanding that affirms the two organisations’ distinct and complementary roles in the quest for Christian unity.

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will participate in a pre-COP28 Faith Leaders Summit in the United Arab Emirates on 6-7 November. 

In a discussion with World Council of Churches (WCC) staff, Mariela Kohon, advisor to the Office of the High Commissioner for Peace - an office that reports directly to the presidency of the Republic of Colombia - shared insights into the ongoing peace dialogues in Colombia and the important role of the WCC and faith leaders.

A new book, "Ahead of Her Time: Pan-African Women of Faith and the Vision of Christian Unity, Mission, and Justice,” authored by World Council of Churches (WCC) president from North America Rev. Dr Angelique Walker-Smith, debuted on 1 November, All Saints Day, during an online and in-person reception and awards ceremony of pan-African women of faith represented in the book. The event took place at Bread for the World (USA) in Washington, DC.

On 27 October Korean Theology Forum on Climate Crisis organized a conference “The Response of the WCC to the Climate Crisis and its Policy for Carbon Neutrality” for the formation of church leaders, pastors and students interested in ways to connect local activities to the global horizon. The conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.

Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia A. Thompson was installed as general minster and president of the United Church of Christ on 20 October. She is the first female to hold this leadership post. 

A World Council of Churches delegation led by general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay has concluded its visit to Armenia after “witnessing dramatic events”.

The World Council of Churches (WCC), with the Colombian Episcopal Conference, United Nations Mission in Colombia, and Organization of American States, has been appointed as a permanent accompanier for peace talks with the Estado Mayor Central (EMC) FARC-EP in Colombia.
