Upon the admission of Archbishop Anastasios of Albania to “Evangelismos” Hospital in Athens at the beginning of January 2025, expressions of widespread acceptance and appreciation emerged from people of all educational backgrounds and ages, from various societal circles (ecclesiastical, academic, political, journalistic), as well as from international inter-Christian and interfaith communities and beyond.

In our brief article, as an expression of love and deep appreciation for the esteemed Archbishop of Tirana, Anastasios, we present, as much as possible, his significant contribution to interfaith dialogue and his active involvement in actions and initiatives aimed at establishing peaceful and just coexistence among all people, regardless of their cultural backgrounds, religious beliefs, or cultural identity.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee concluded its meeting in Cyprus with inspiration and practical plans for a way forward with hope, even in a challenging world. 

The year 2025 will mark the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council at Nicaea in 325, which inspired the modern ecumenical movement to work on issues on Faith and Order for the unity of the church and humankind. Additionally, 2025 will also mark the 100th anniversary of the first Universal Christian Conference on Life and Work, held in Stockholm in 1925. 

The World Council of Churches is giving thanks for the life of V. Rev. Dr Georges Tsetsis, Grand Protopresbyter of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, who passed away on 2 June.

A group of church leaders from Sweden met with the World Council of Churches (WCC) to prepare for the year 2025, with a focus on commemorating 100 years since the beginning of the Life and Work movement as well as the commemoration of the 1700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, where bishops representing the whole of Christendom gathered together for the first time to discuss the faith and witness of the church.

No holidays for William Temple, Archbishop of York, early in August 1937. The ecumenical movement for the social responsibility of the churches, known as “Life and Work,” had just held its world conference in Oxford, 12-26 July, with the church struggle against emerging totalitarian states at the heart of its theme and work. Temple had drafted the final message of the conference, known for the motto “let the Church be the Church.”
