Sharing hopes and challenges for the search for peace on the Korean peninsula, members of the Ecumenical Forum for Peace, Reunification & Development on the Korean Peninsula (EFK) gathered for an informal meeting this week.

On 27 October Korean Theology Forum on Climate Crisis organized a conference “The Response of the WCC to the Climate Crisis and its Policy for Carbon Neutrality” for the formation of church leaders, pastors and students interested in ways to connect local activities to the global horizon. The conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of the Republic of Korea.

The Christian Conference of Asia 15th General Assembly, in a statement, called for prayers for true peace on the Korean Peninsula. The statement also called upon governments to refrain from provocative statements and military actions, and prayed that permanent members of the UN Security Council continue to work together for reconciliation and peace on the Korean Peninsula.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is urging a renewal of a Joint Ecumenical Peace Appeal—one that calls for, among other actions toward peace, an immediate formal declaration of the end of the Korean War.

On 13 August, a global prayer for peace and reconciliation on the Korean Peninsula will unite voices seeking to build bridges between North and South Korea.

El Acuerdo de Armisticio de la guerra, de 70 años de antigüedad, debería ser sustituido por un tratado de paz, instó el Comité Central del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) en una declaración pública. “Coincidiendo con un nuevo aumento de las tensiones y los enfrentamientos en la península coreana, recordamos que este año se conmemora el 70º aniversario del Acuerdo de Armisticio de 1953, que estableció un alto el fuego, pero no el fin formal de la guerra de Corea,” declara el texto. “Oramos para que la paz y el diálogo pongan fin a este peligroso ciclo, y por la desnuclearización no solo de la península de Corea, sino de todo el mundo”.
