Les membres d'Églises migrantes et locales de Genève pourront faire l'expérience de la vie et de l'esprit de la Dixième Assemblée du COE à l'occasion d'une journée organisée dans leur ville le samedi 14 septembre. Cet événement, intitulé «Une journée à la 10e Assemblée du COE», aura lieu au Centre œcuménique, à Genève, de 8 h 30 à 16 h 30.

Pope Benedict and WCC leader reaffirm common goals for visible church unity

The general secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, met in a private audience with Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican on Saturday for nearly a quarter of an hour. The two church leaders discussed a number issues including visible church unity and the situation of Christians in the Middle East. "We had a very open and friendly conversation," Tveit said after the audience. "He emphasized in a very kind and also a very strong way the importance of the World Council of Churches' work and the ministry I am called to do as general secretary."

A l'occasion de sa première visite au Centre oecuménique à Genève, la présidente du mouvement des Focolari, Maria Emmaus Voce, a invité le personnel du Conseil oecuménique des Eglises (COE) et d'autres organisations oecuméniques à mettre en pratique les paroles de Jésus Christ, afin "qu'elles nous donnent cette unité qui témoigne de Dieu dans le monde."

Evoquant le charisme de Chiara Lubich, "flamme d'amour qui commença à briller au coeur des cendres et des décombres de la guerre", dans un hommage rendu à la fondatrice du mouvement des Focolari, le pasteur Samuel Kobia, secrétaire général du Conseil oecuménique des Eglises (COE), a exprimé le "profond chagrin" de ses nombreux amis au sein de cette institution à la nouvelle de son décès. Chiara Lubich, qui s'était vouée à promouvoir la paix, l'unité de l'Eglise et le dialogue entre les religions, est décédée le 14 mars, âgée de 88 ans, à son domicile près de Rome, Italie.

Recalling the charisma of Chiara Lubich as a "flame of love that began to shine in the midst of the ashes and destruction of war" in a tribute to the founder of the Focolare movement, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia shared the "deep sorrow" of her many friends on the WCC upon the news of her death. Chiara Lubich, who dedicated herself to the promotion of peace, church unity and inter-religious dialogue, died on 14 March aged 88 at her home near Rome, Italy.

WCC general secretary confident about Christian unity progress

At today's ecumenical Vespers service presided by Pope Benedict XVI, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia underlined the importance of "a church that is one and united in its witness" to a world marked by violence and disunity.  The service in Rome marked the conclusion of the 100th anniversary of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity.

The WCC and Pentecostals deepen their conversation

A second round of dialogue between World Council of Churches (WCC) members and Pentecostals was inaugurated last week in Baar, Switzerland. A group of seventeen Protestant, Orthodox and Pentecostal Christians met to re-launch the work begun by the first Joint Consultative Group between the WCC and Pentecostals from 2000 to 2005.
