Der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen (ÖRK) hat seinen Beitrag zur Verfassung der „Neuen Agenda für den Frieden“ der UNO angeboten – ein Prozess mit dem Ziel, den Ansatz dieser internationalen Organisation in Bezug auf Frieden und Sicherheit im globalen Kontext zu aktualisieren. In seinem Beitrag richtete der ÖRK – beeinflusst durch die Erklärung der 11. Vollversammlung des ÖRK „Was zum Frieden dient“ – ein besonderes Augenmerk darauf, dass eine bessere finanzielle und tatkräftige Unterstützung der Friedensbildung auf nationaler und lokaler Ebene vonnöten ist und nicht Polarisierung und militärische Konfrontation.
