As Mozambican churches respond to growing humanitarian challenges in the country, their leaders are urging the government to act decisively to end a violent conflict in the north which has left behind a trail of death, destruction and displacement.
Conflict has ingrained itself in the people of Mozambique for many decades from the days of Portuguese colonial rule, to the ensuing civil war which only ended this century, and now Daesh along with the unseen enemy of COVID-19. So, the churches have their hands full as peacemakers.
Daily Bible studies at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism has been gathering participants from mainline Protestant, Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Evangelical, Pentecostal, and African-instituted churches. Under the theme ‘Moving in the Spirit called Transforming Discipleship’, the World Council of Churches is hosting a major conference on World Mission and Evangelism in Arusha, Tanzania, 8-13 March.
A document published in Swahili language titled, ‘The Church: Towards a common vision’ was launched at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism in Arusha, Tanzania on 12 March. The document is now translated into 15 languages.

“Is our notion of discipleship inclusive of those who exist in the marginal spaces of our world?”, asked Adi Mariana Waqa, the keynote speaker of a plenary on the theme of mission from the margins at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME).
“The truth we are all sharing with the world is a living truth coming out of the life of people, it is not a dead dogma”, said Prof. Dr Dimitra Koukoura, from the Ecumenical Patriarchate, during a panel held at the Conference on World Mission and Evangelism (CWME).
