WCC decries escalation of Syria conflict

Responding to overnight missile attacks on a Syrian air force base by U.S. forces, WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit on 7 April urged all parties in the conflict to cease hostilities and commit to peaceful negotiations toward a transitional governance within the framework of international law.

WCC general secretary joins UN dialogue on interreligious peace

WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit joined other speakers at a side event of the 34th session of the UN Human Rights Council on 7 March. The speakers, which also included Metropolitan Hilarion, chairman of the Department of External Church Relations for the Russian Orthodox Church, addressed the topic of “Mutual Respect and Peaceful Coexistence as a Condition of Interreligious Peace and Stability: Supporting Christians and Other Communities.”

Cada mañana un hombre alegre y elocuente llega a su oficina de Jerusalén Oriental con, al menos, un atisbo de esperanza. Se trata del Dr. Bernard Sabella, que ha dedicado toda su vida a los derechos del pueblo palestino. En su trabajo como director ejecutivo del Departamento de Servicios a los Refugiados Palestinos (DSRP), se encuentra a diario con cuestiones que tienen que ver con la relación entre palestinos e israelíes. Al mismo tiempo, Sabella solo quiere ser un ciudadano corriente en el país donde él y su familia tienen sus raíces, sin que se le asocie constantemente con el conflicto palestino-israelí, que a veces siente que no hace justicia a su identidad como palestino.

El CMI insta a la protección de los refugiados y los desplazados de Oriente Medio

En una declaración publicada el 25 de noviembre, el Comité Ejecutivo del CMI ha formulado importantes recomendaciones instando a todos los países a que adopten medidas especiales para proteger y ayudar a los refugiados y los desplazados de Oriente Medio, y en especial a los que provienen de países como Siria, Iraq e Israel-Palestina.

A community of young Christians, Muslims and Jews works for climate justice

Amidst the reality of tensions often fueled by religions, a group of Christian, Muslim and Jewish youth has formed a multi-faith community. As part of an interfaith summer course sponsored by the WCC, this community wants to work for the protection of creation – a concern they say is common to all faith traditions.
