Community of Protestant Churches in Europe gathers for 8th Assembly

Member churches of the 8th Community of Protestant Churches in Europe (CPCE) General Assembly gathered in Basel, Switzerland on 13-18 September. The choice of the Basel Cathedral and the adjoining pre-Reformation Bishops Palace to meet suited well the historic moment on Switzerland’s Day of Prayer of Thanksgiving, Repentance and Prayer.

Entitled “Sharing faith, nurturing hope”, the WCC Annual Review 2017 is now available in four languages: English, French, German and Spanish. The annual review of the WCC records many of the activities undertaken by the council during 2017 and continuing into 2018.

Local pastor says visit by pope encourages ecumenism in Geneva

The pastor of a Protestant congregation in Geneva is excited that Pope Francis has accepted the invitation to join in celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the World Council of Churches.

“This is a pope who is open, inclusive, and engaged and speaks about things that are important to Christians and all humanity. His visit encourages and supports unity in the body of Christ,” says Rev. Andy Willis, pastor of the English-speaking Evangelical Lutheran Church of Geneva. “I am personally profoundly excited by what he represents.”

Media accreditation opens for WCC Central Committee 2018

The Central Committee of the WCC will meet 15-21 June for its third gathering since it was elected at the WCC 10th Assembly in Busan, Republic of Korea in 2013. The meeting will take place at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva and at the Ecumenical Institute in Bossey, Switzerland.

Lecture explores how theological education is concerned with the world

Rev. Prof. Dr Rudolf von Sinner, professor of Systematic Theology, Ecumenism and Interreligious Dialogue as well as moderator of World Council of Churches (WCC) Ecumenical Education and Formation Commission, offered a public lecture on 13 April at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva as part of the WCC’s ongoing observance of its 70th anniversary this year.

Youth gather in Basel for Taizé pilgrimage

Young adults from more than 60 countries gathered in Basel for the 40th annual Taizé European Meeting of Young Adults from 28 December - 1 January. As part of a new stage of the Pilgrimage of Trust on Earth, the meeting took place for the first time in a tri-national region (Switzerland, Germany, France).
