New book available: “Ahead of Her Time: Pan-African Women of Faith and the Vision of Christian Unity, Mission, and Justice”

A new book, "Ahead of Her Time: Pan-African Women of Faith and the Vision of Christian Unity, Mission, and Justice,” authored by World Council of Churches (WCC) president from North America Rev. Dr Angelique Walker-Smith, debuted on 1 November, All Saints Day, during an online and in-person reception and awards ceremony of pan-African women of faith represented in the book. The event took place at Bread for the World (USA) in Washington, DC.

Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay served as a keynote speaker at the Ninth Conference for Research in Diakonia and Christian Social Practice, hosted by the International Society for the Research and Study of Diakonia and Christian Social Practice and VID Specialized University. The theme of the conference was Contested Spaces of Diaconia – Seeking Justice, Safety and Well-Being.”

«Pour la première fois depuis longtemps, cette 11e Assemblée a offert des espaces sûrs pour prendre un engagement sérieux, mener des réflexions, prier, s’interpeller mutuellement [et] se rencontrer», a déclaré Agnes Abuom, présidente du Comité central du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE). Elle a détaillé ce que l’Assemblée du COE lui avait apporté, notamment «l’engagement à rechercher l’unité – une vision et une conception commune», qui, selon elle, constitue le pilier du COE.

“For the first time in a long while, this 11th assembly provided safe spaces for serious engagement, reflections, prayer, challenging one another, [and] encounters.” said Dr Agnes Abuom, moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee. She spoke of her take-aways from the WCC assembly, including the “commitment to the search for unity – common vision and understanding,” which she referred to as the cornerstone of the WCC.
