On 20 July, faith communities from 70 different groups across the world gathered online and in-person in Washington, DC to express solidarity for the billions of people without access to COVID-19 vaccines.

In a video message, moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee Dr Agnes Abuom bid goodbye and expressed deep appreciation to Rev. Prof. Dr h.c. Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, who is retiring as president of "Brot für die Welt" and "Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe" after leading the German charity for 20 years. Füllkrug-Weitzel is also a WCC Thursdays in Black ambassador.

Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel und würdigte ihren Einsatz und ihr Engagement. Cornelia hat die Hilfswerke Brot für die Welt und Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe als Direktorin und Präsidentin 20 Jahre geleitet und geht jetzt in den Ruhestand. Füllkrug-Weitzel ist ebenfalls ÖRK-Botschafterin für Donnerstags in Schwarz.

Cornelia Füllkrug-Weitzel, con motivo de su jubilación como presidenta de Pan para el Mundo (Brot für die Welt) y Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, tras haber estado al frente de la caridad alemana durante 20 años. Füllkrug-Weitzel también es embajadora de la campaña Jueves de negro.

Das führte dazu, dass die Öffentlichkeit nicht nur sachlich richtige Informationen über Impfstoffe bekommen hat, sondern die Menschen auch dazu motiviert wurden, sich solidarisch zu verhalten und sich impfen zu lassen.        

Les efforts extraordinaires déployés pour développer des vaccins contre la COVID-19 et mettre en place des programmes de vaccination de masse donnent de l’espoir à des millions de personnes dans le monde. Tout au long de la pandémie, les organismes de santé publique ont collaboré étroitement avec des organisations non gouvernementales et confessionnelles. Cette coopération a contribué à la transmission au public d’informations factuelles sur les vaccins et à l’encourager à faire preuve de solidarité en se faisant vacciner.    

Los extraordinarios esfuerzos para desarrollar vacunas contra la COVID-19 y desplegar programas de vacunación masiva ofrecen esperanza a millones de personas en todo el mundo. Durante la pandemia, las organizaciones de salud pública han colaborado estrechamente con las organizaciones no gubernamentales y religiosas. Eso ha marcado la diferencia, tanto al hacer llegar al público información objetiva sobre las vacunas como al alentar a las personas a que actúen de forma solidaria vacunándose.

Extraordinary efforts to develop vaccines against COVID-19 and roll out mass vaccination programmes provide hope to millions of people around the globe. Throughout the pandemic, public health organizations have collaborated closely with non-government- and faith-based organizations. That has made a difference, both in getting factual information about vaccines across to the public, and in encouraging people to act in solidarity by getting vaccinated.
