The World Council of Churches invites a Churches’ Week of Action on Food, from 13-20 October 2019.

The thematic focus of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace (PJP) in 2019 is Racism.The WCC Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA), organises a series of eight WCC CCIA regional expert Webinars on the issue of racism and racial justice from August to December 2019. The aim of the webinars is to explore how racism manifests itself in the respective regions, learn about the work that churches and ecumenical partners are doing in this respect, identify synergies and avenues for possible collaboration.

The peace pilgrimage in Seoul will be followed by a three-day meeting with the ECHOS Commission on Youth during which commissioners will stake out plans for the WCC programme.

The pilgrimage and the ECHOS meeting will be complemented by the worldwide yearly Prayer for the Peaceful Reunification of the Korean Peninsula on 11 August and the Ecumenical International Youth Day at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 12 August.

This year, the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF), in partnership with the World Student Christian Federation (WSCF), will observe together the International Youth Day (IYD) with the theme: “Transforming Education.” Youth are the future of the church, and they are great advocates for Christian unity. The WCC wants to empower young Christians to liven up the ecumenical movement.

The WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene) sector is increasingly recognizing the value of engaging with faith actors. Correspondingly, numerous faith actors have expressed support for WASH programs and the SDGs. This fourth annual Water and Faith event at the World Water Week builds upon these trends and the last three years of dialogue at this event.

The side-event will be an opportunity to explore how taxation and reparations can contribute to “Empowering people and ensuring inclusiveness and equality,” the theme of the 2019 High-Level Political Forum on the SDGs (08-17 July 2019, New York). Rising inequality – often rooted in historical injustices – and runaway climate change are fuelling poverty, social disintegration and conflicts around the world.

The 6th edition of this conference is held under the Auspices of His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I and with the support of the World Council of Churches (WCC) programme on Care for Creation, sustainability and climate justice (Ecological and Economic Justice)

Violence begets violence, so peace-building requires nonviolent engagement. Examples of how this can be done have been put together in an interactive exhibition by the Evangelical Church in Hesse and Nassau, EKHN (represented in the World Council of Churches through the Evangelical Church in Germany, EKD).

This event plans to engage 30 indigenous young people from around the world and 20 Asian young people to go deeper on the topic of racism and exchange experiences. Key reasons for gathering in Japan is to show concrete solidarity with Indigenous Communities in Japan, share stories and hear the issues that they are struggling with.

Held at the Ecumenical Institute Bossey, the consultation on "Green Reformation: Eco-Theology, Education and the Future of the Church" takes place from 12 to 15 May 2019.

This inter-religious event, which is going to be divided into two panels, will allow the faith traditions to share convictions and visions for the dignity of work and of the workers.

The workshop will gather church leaders, church-rooted activists and experts on tax justice and reparations to with the aim of building a global ecumenical campaign for tax justice and reparations.

During the week of 18-25 January, we celebrate two important events: the Week of Action to Fight Inequality and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity which has as its theme for 2019, “justice and only justice you shall pursue” (Deuteronomy 16, 18-20). On Tuesday, 29 January 29 2019, the Fifth Annual Symposium on the Role of Religion and Faith-based Organizations in International Affairs will focus on financing for sustainable development and build on this vision of an economy of life as the flourishing of all life. Panel discussions will consider the broad issues of economic justice as addressed in the course of human rights-based development, governance and accountability in the global financial architecture, the implications for environmental sustainability, gender justice and financing social protection.

How can I be connected with God at work for inspiration and orientation? How can spirituality strengthen to live faith and values in daily professional decisions? How is spirituality in the modern cyber-world 4.0 of constant global connectivity possible? What kind of tools can be implemented in the company? After the first, successful such conference in January 2018 in Geneva, this conference brings again Associations of Christian entrepreneurs from all continents together to learn from each other, to connect to each other and to further cooperate in implementing the “Faith in Business Geneva Declaration” of 2018.
