Une petite délégation de la Fédération protestante de France a rendu visite au Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE) au Centre œcuménique de Genève le 31 août. Elle a été reçue par le secrétaire général par intérim du COE, le père Ioan Sauca. La délégation était constituée du pasteur Clavairoly, président de la Fédération protestante de France, de la pasteure Anne-Laure Danet et de Madame Aude Millet, directrice de la Communication.  

A small delegation from the Féderation protestante de France visited the World Council of Churches (WCC) at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 31 August. Received by WCC acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca, the delegation included Féderation protestante de France president Rev. Clavairoly, pastor Anne-Laure Danet and Madame Aude Millet, communications director.  

During the global pandemic it is not any more possible to be present at special celebrations in the ecumenical and global fellowship. The new realities connect the local and global work in a new and innovative way. The WCC is present digitally in many gatherings.

In a speech before the annual assembly of the Protestant Federation of France, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit reflected on the questions: Where does the ecumenical movement stand today and where should the WCC take in it in the future?

A century after the landmark Paris Peace Conference that followed the First World War, representatives of churches from throughout Europe gathered in the French capital to seek ways of strengthening peace in the 21st century.

After a large fire broke out on 15 April at the Notre Dame cathedral, World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit expressed shock over the damage to one the most famous landmarks in Paris, and the seat of the archbishop of Paris.

Après qu’un incendie s’est déclaré le 15 avril en la cathédrale Notre-Dame, le secrétaire général du Conseil œcuménique des Églises (COE), le pasteur Olav Fykse Tveit, se dit choqué des dégâts subis par l’un des monuments les plus connus de Paris et le siège de l’archevêché de Paris.

“Mission is not an action or activity we can choose. It is an expression of daily life. It belongs to the whole church and is not the function of just a few or of an agency,” says Father Ioan Sauca, deputy general secretary of the World Council of Churches.

In a recent statement, religious leaders called for an ambitious climate agreement, reminding all governments to commit to emission cuts and climate risk reduction. They promised to continue working for climate justice, including divestment from fossil energy.

In the wake of recent crisis with the refugees in Europe, it is “absolutely and critically necessary that all European states take their proper responsibility in terms of reception and support for people seeking refuge, safety and a better future for themselves and their families. This cannot be left only to the states where they enter first,” says the WCC general secretary.

A recent meeting of representatives from ecumenical organizations, Catholic, Evangelical and Pentecostal churches in Strasbourg, France has promised to address more effectively discrimination, persecution and violence faced by Christians around the world. This theme will be explored in depth through an international consultation to be held in 2015.

Réunis à Strasbourg (France), des représentants d'organisations œcuméniques et d'Églises des traditions catholique, évangélique et pentecôtiste ont promis de s'attaquer plus efficacement à la discrimination, à la persécution et à la violence auxquelles sont confrontés les chrétiens à l'échelle de la planète. Ce thème sera étudié en profondeur à l'occasion d'un colloque international qui se tiendra en 2015.

Two member churches of the WCC from Reformed and Lutheran traditions have united to become the United Protestant Church of France.

Deux Églises membres du COE, appartenant respectivement aux traditions réformée et luthérienne, ont fusionné pour former l'Église protestante unie de France.
