Der geschäftsführende Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Priester Prof. Dr. Ioan Sauca, äußert seine Gedanken anlässlich der Entgegennahme des Bridge Builder Awards, den er für den Bau von Brücken der Verständigung zwischen Menschen, Nationen und Gemeinschaften auf nationaler und internationaler Ebene erhalten hat. Diese Auszeichnung wird am 14. August von der Jury des „14th August Committee Norway“ und dem Oslo Center überreicht.

WCC honored with Bridge Builder Award 2021

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is receiving a Bridge Builder Award for building bridges of understanding between people, nations, and communities at national and international levels. The award is presented by the Jury of the 14th August Committee Norway together with The Oslo Center.

Nach mehr als zehn Jahren an der Spitze des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) sagt Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, dass dies „die Zeit sei, einander daran zu erinnern, dass wir an Gott als „den guten Hirten“ glauben, der uns versprochen hat, auch in schweren Zeiten und besonders während dieser globalen COVID-19-Krise an unserer Seite zu stehen“.

Dr Olav Fykse Tveit says this is the time that "we should remind one another that we believe in God as the “Good shepherd” who promised to be with us also in times of crisis,” especially in this time of the global COVID-19 crisis.

Norwegian prophetic bishop ‘has no regrets’

Retired Bishop Gunnar Stålsett was convicted by an Oslo court as on 19 December, for having offered work and income to a rejected refugee who couldn’t be sent back to Eritrea. That became illegal in 2011, but Stålsett described himself as a conscientious objector to a law he views as simply wrong. Bishop Stålsett’s case attracted more media coverage in Norway and worldwide, after he was convicted of violating immigration law.

Role of religion being questioned in public event in Norway

This week Norwegians are gathering to discuss a large variety of political topics during an event called “Arendalsuka”. Nearly 80 000 people are filling the small town of Arendal with seminars, debates, exhibitions and events. During this week The Christian Council of Norway wanted to arrange an ecumenical worship, but the event was rejected by the main organizer of the week. Their reason for rejecting a worship was that the week is supposed to be open to all – regardless of faith or political view.

Vor 70 Jahren wurde am 23. August der Ökumenische Rat der Kirchen in Amsterdam gegründet. Der Festgottesdienst am 23. August in Amsterdam ist nur eine der zahlreichen Veranstaltungen, die der ÖRK, seine Mitgliedskirchen und Partner planen, um den Pilgerweg der Gerechtigkeit und des Friedens weiterzugehen und gleichzeitig diese 70 Jahre ökumenischen Strebens zu ehren und von ihnen zu lernen. Dr. Abuom, die Vorsitzende des ÖRK-Zentralausschusses, sprach in einem Interview über die Entwicklung des ÖRK in den letzten 70 Jahren.

It’s 70 years since the World Council of Churches was founded in Amsterdam on 23 August. In addition to a commemoration service in Amsterdam on 23 August, the WCC, its member churches and partners are planning a variety of events to move forward on our ongoing Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace, and at the same time honour and learn from these 70 years of ecumenical endeavour. Dr Abuom, from the Anglican Church of Kenya, is the moderator of the WCC Central Committee. She is the first woman and the first African in the position in WCC’s history. In an interview, she reflects on the evolution of the WCC in the past 70 years.
