WCC condemns attack in Egypt

The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit condemned an attack on a bus in Egypt carrying tourists on Friday near the Giza Pyramids, killing four Vietnamese tourists and their Egyptian guide. The blast wounded 11 other Vietnamese tourists as well as the Egyptian driver.

April in Ägypten.

In ihren Ansprachen auf der internationalen Friedenskonferenz der al-Azhar-Universität am 27. und 28. April 2017 in Ägypten befassen sich der ökumenische Patriarch, Seine Allheiligkeit Bartholomäus I, Papst Franziskus und der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, mit Themen wie der falschen Auslegung religiöser Texte, der Friedenskultur der Religionen und dem Weltfrieden sowie der Frage, welche Auswirkungen Armut, Krankheit und Ausbeutung auf den Frieden in der Welt haben.

Dr Olav Fykse Tveit address topics of misinterpretation of religious text, the culture of peace in religion, and global peace and how it is affected by poverty, illness and exploitation.

40 junge Menschen aus 14 Ländern treffen sich diese Woche in Kairo zu einem Seminar zum Thema „Jugendengagement, Religion und Gewalt“. Vom 18. bis 22. August beschäftigen sich Teilnehmende aus Europa, Afrika, Asien und dem Nahen Osten mit Themen wie dem Einfluss religiöser Debatten auf Maßnahmen zur Friedensschaffung bzw. auf das Anheizen von Spannungen, die in Gewalt umschlagen können.

Seminar will address youth engagement, religion and violence

Forty young people from 14 countries will meet this week in Cairo for a seminar entitled “Youth Engagement, Religion and Violence.” From 18 to 22 August, participants from Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East will focus on topics such as the impact of religious discourse on contributions to peace-building versus creating violent tensions.
