A Global Peace Prayer on 22 March will draw Christians together in hope for a better future. A communique from a prayer planning committee explained that Christians are called into prayer and advocacy for peace. “In a global context where war and violence abound, the practice of peace has become even more urgent,” reads the message.

En un comunicado, el comité de planificación de oraciones explicó que los cristianos están llamados a orar por la paz y a promover la paz. “En un contexto mundial en que abundan las guerras y la violencia, la práctica de la paz es aún más urgente”, dice el mensaje.

Das Kommuniqué eines Planungsausschusses für dieses Friedensgebet erklärt, dass christliche Gläubige zu Gebet und Fürsprachearbeit für Frieden aufgerufen sind. „In einem globalen Kontext, in dem es zu viel Krieg und Gewalt gibt, ist ein Engagement für Frieden dringlicher geworden denn je“, heißt es in dem Kommuniqué.

Anlässlich der Tagung des Planungsausschusses für die Vollversammlung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), die diese Woche auf Zypern stattfindet, hat sich ÖRK-Generalsekretär Pastor Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit in seiner Ansprache mit dem Thema der kommenden 11. Vollversammlung befasst. Es lautet: „Die Liebe Christi bewegt, versöhnt und eint die Welt“.

This Lenten season, the WCC invites its member churches to pray on Sunday 29 March for those affected by wars in the Middle East, especially in Iraq, Syria, Libya and Egypt. The season of prayer is meant to revive hope from hopelessness, taking into account the vulnerability of minority communities and the threat of losing the diversity of the social fabric in this region.
