World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit sent a message to the participants of a public event held on 15 October, in Montevideo, Uruguay, celebrating the legacy of Emilio Castro and the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, secretario general del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), envió un mensaje a los participantes en el evento público que tuvo lugar el 15 de octubre en Montevideo, Uruguay, para celebrar el legado de Emilio Castro y el 70° aniversario de la Declaración Universal de Derechos Humanos.

In 1984 a pastor from Uruguay became the first Latin American to be elected as general secretary of the WCC. The late Emilio Castro (1927 - 2013) left an unmatched legacy of passionate ecumenism behind him. His book “Pasion y compromise con el Reino de Dios”, first published in 2007, has now been translated into English and released in an edited version.

From 18-20 September, the World Council of Churches (WCC) is hosting in Buenos Aires, Argentina, a regional meeting of some 30 people with responsibilities for ecumenical relations in several churches in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean.

Del 18 al 20 de septiembre, el Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) acoge en Buenos Aires, Argentina, la reunión regional de unas 30 personas a cargo de las relaciones ecuménicas en varias iglesias de la región de América Latina y el Caribe. Se trata de la primera reunión de este tipo que sigue la dinámica de las reuniones mundiales de la Red de Responsables Ecuménicos que tienen lugar cada dos años en la sede central del CMI en Ginebra, Suiza.

One of the most active groups of "La Casona", a care center in the southern part of Buenos Aires, is the “Centro de Producción Audiovisual”, which is formed by eight young people of ages 16-22 who found in the cinema and audiovisual production a tool to express their feelings about the challenging reality around them. A conversation on the way home to Chile from the WCC 4th Assembly planted an ecumenical seed that grew into a wonderful experience of Christian unity – the partnership agreement between the Pentecostal Church of Chile and the United Church of Christ.

Es demasiado peligroso ir allí.” Esas fueron las reacciones que suscitó Frederique Seidel cuando dijo que tenía la intención de visitar la Obra Ecuménica Barrio Borro o el proyecto de apoyo ecuménico en dicho barrio de Montevideo, Uruguay.

The second edition of the World Council of Churches (WCC) Eco-School on Water, Food and Climate Justice will be held from 1-12 November 2018 in San Salvador, El Salvador. This year the Eco-School will focus on Latin America and the Caribbean. Applications are now open with a deadline of 31 August 2018.

La segunda edición de la Eco-School del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) sobre justicia hídrica, alimentaria y climática tendrá lugar del 1 al 12 de noviembre en San Salvador, El Salvador. Este año, la ecoescuela se centrará en América Latina y el Caribe. La convocatoria está abierta y el plazo para presentar las solicitudes vence el 31 de agosto de 2018.
