World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay will visit Cuba from 17-19 December to reiterate WCC support for the churches and people in Cuba.


In his first visit to Cuba as WCC general secretary, Pillay will meet religious and government leaders.

He will reiterate the WCC’s support for UN resolutions condemning the ongoing blockade imposed on Cuba; for removing Cuba from the State Sponsor of Terrorism List; and for religious freedom in Cuba.

Pillay will give a sermon at the Presbyterian Reformed Church of Cuba, which is the first Protestant church in Havana, and a founding church of the Cuban Council of Churches.

Pillay will also meet with the Cuba Council of Churches; ecumenical and interfaith partners; Cuban president Miguel Díaz-Canel, foreign minister Bruno Rodriguez, and chargé d affaires Benjamin Ziff,

In addition, the WCC general secretary will deliver a lecture at Havana University, and be featured in a press conference.
