The World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit emphasized close links between the biblical understanding of peace and a “harmonious society” in which all citizens are valued. Tveit was speaking at the 9th World Assembly of Religions for Peace, held from 20 to 22 November in Vienna, Austria.

Tveit gave a presentation on “Welcoming the other through citizenship for just and harmonious societies”. In his message, Tveit highlighted the ecumenical vision in which, he said, people of faith and religious traditions have much to offer. “Our pilgrimage must include an invitation” to walk alongside one another in the presence God, “to contribute gifts and insights, reflecting the common value of life for all,” he said.
