Commission moderator Rev. Prof. Dr Stephanie Dietrich deemed the meeting a historic moment, as it was not only the gathering of a new commission but the first time the commission has met in Indonesia. The meeting, hosted by the Indonesian Communion of Churches, laid the foundation for the commissions future endeavours, including planning for Nicaea 2025, the historic sixth world conference, which is scheduled to take place in October 2025.

The commission was elected by the WCC central committee in June 2023.
