With its ecumenical partners—including the Lutheran World Federation, ACT Alliance, and Christian Aid—the WCC will host a joint prayer service by women at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva on 8 March, which will be available globally online as part of WCC’s weekly prayer resources.
With a new creative resource this year, Thursdays in Black ambassadors have prepared special prayers to support women facing sexual abuse and violence, and to highlight international solidarity to overcome gender-based violence. The prayers will be available as separate virtual “cards” for the week leading up to International Women’s Day, with the full collection released on 8 March.
“Creator God, we are made in your image and yet our society would say some are less than others,” reads one of the cards. “On this International Women’s Day, we pray for women around the world and the many roles we play.”
Observed for more than a century, International Women’s Day honors and celebrates the achievements of women and highlights challenges and the need for action to reach gender equality.
This year’s international theme is #ChoosetoChallenge.
