Dr Agnes Abuom, moderator of the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, delivered a greeting at the installation of the archbishop of the South Sudan Episcopal Church on 22 April.

Rev. Justin Badi Arama is the church’s fifth archbishop in what Abuom called an historic time in the life of the church of South Sudan. The outgoing primate is Rev. Daniel Deng Bull.

“Together with the South Sudan Council of Churches, we continue to journey with the worldwide church in seeking sustainable peace and justice,”said Abuom. “Our roles have been complimentary acknowledging the pivotal task of the local church in accompanying her people in very difficult circumstances.”

Abuom thanked Bull for his service and assured Arama of WCC’s continued support. “God bless your ministry, the church and the people of South Sudan,”she said.
