An ecumenical prayer service on World AIDS Day, to be observed 1 December, will focus on the theme “Overcoming Inequalities With Justice and Love,” a special emphasis in the context of 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, which runs from 25 November until 10 December.
As the Protestant Church of Switzerland held a synod and installed its next executive president Rev. Rita Famos and a new member of the council Claudia Haslebacher at the Cathedral of Berne on 13 June, World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca offered an intercessory prayer as well as reflections on ecumenism.
Church and political leaders have marked the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther’s Reformation in Wittenberg, Germany where on 31 October 1517 he published his 95 Theses denouncing church abuses.
