The seminar held by the WCC and UNICEF at the Ecumenical Centre will be a milestone in the development of “principles and tools for child-friendly churches” and showcase current stages of engagement by WCC member churches.

The Churches’ Week of Action on Food is an opportunity for Christians and others around the world to act together for food justice and food sovereignty. It is a special time to raise awareness about farming approaches that help individuals and communities develop resiliency and combat poverty. The Food for Life Campaign places a particular emphasis on sustainable agricultural practices and the situation of smallholder producers and their access to, and control over, natural resources such as land, water and seeds.

La Semaine d’action des Églises pour l’alimentation offre aux chrétiens et chrétiennes et à d’autres la possibilité d’agir ensemble en faveur de la justice alimentaire et de la souveraineté alimentaire. Il s’agit d’un moment privilégié pour sensibiliser l’opinion publique aux méthodes agricoles qui permettent de développer la résilience des individus et des communautés et de lutter contre la pauvreté. La Campagne de l’«Alimentation pour la vie» est axée sur les pratiques agricoles durables et la situation des petits paysans, notamment leur accès aux ressources naturelles – terre, eau et semences en particulier – et les moyens d’action qu’ils ont sur celles-ci.

The Fast for the Climate campaign is an interfaith initiative bringing people of different faiths to fast, as a spiritual exercise, in solidarity with the victims of climate change. People are invited to fast the 1st of each month. The WCC is one of the co-sponsors of this initiative.

La campagne du Jeûne pour le climat est une initiative interreligieuse qui vise à rassembler des personnes de religions différentes autour d'un exercice spirituel, le jeûne, en signe de solidarité avec les victimes des changements climatiques. Chacun est invité à jeûner le 1er de chaque mois. Le COE est l'un des promoteurs de cette initiative.

In order to highlight the specific contributions that faith traditions bring to the international climate debate, the WCC and Religions for Peace will organize an Interfaith Summit on Climate Change ahead of the the United Nations secretary-general Ban Ki-moon's Climate Summit in September. To have an impact on the climate agenda, action needs to happen everywhere in the world. As key leaders meet in New York, their efforts will be enhanced by grassroots activities around the world, featured on the summit's website.

Afin de mettre en valeur les contributions spécifiques que les traditions religieuses apportent au débat international sur le climat, le Conseil œcuménique des Églises et Religions pour la paix organiseront un Sommet interreligieux sur les changements climatiques avant la réunion organisé par le secrétaire général de l'ONU en septembre. Pour que la question du climat bénéficie de l'attention qu'elle mérite, des actions doivent être menées aux quatre coins du monde. Quand les grands dirigeants de la planète se réuniront à New York, leurs efforts seront mis en valeur par les activités menées par de simples citoyens à travers le monde.

This seminar will make the link between ecology, theology and justice visible, and draw attention to the potential for churches to develop viable, applied ethical responses and alternatives to the menace to nature from within their traditions. At the same time the seminar will provide insights into eco-theological discourses which emphasize the necessity of processes of mutual critique between ecology and theology in order to promote the common aim of a sustainable world for tomorrow.
