The World Council of Churches (WCC) executive committee, meeting in Abuja, Nigeria, on 8-14 November, released a statement that demands an immediate ceasefire, and the opening of humanitarian corridors in Palestine and Israel. 

H2 is the name given to the eastern part of Hebron City, the only Palestinian city center which remains under full Israeli military control in the West Bank.

Masafer Yatta is in the South Hebron Hills, and it spreads over 3,000 hectares within Area C of the West Bank, and includes 12 Palestinian villages.

The assault by Israel’s military on Jenin Refugee Camp has left 12 Palestinians killed, and 120 injured including 20 in critical condition.

Recent events in Palestine and Israel have, tragically, once again underscored the critical need for a just peace in the region, for both Palestinians and Israelis, says World Council of Churches acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) calls on the Palestinian Authority to investigate recent attacks on Christians in the West Bank, and to ensure justice and dignity for all citizens.  The WCC call follows two attacks last week against Christians in Nablus and Bethlehem areas.

After an attack on Rabbis for Human Rights and the Palestinians they were accompanying, World Council of Churches (WCC) acting general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca shared prayers of healing for those injured and of solidarity with those working for peace.

De-facto annexation is a reality today where Jesus walked 2000 years ago. With this Easter initiative we want to highlight the situation in the Holy Land – though the threat of formal annexation of occupied Palestinian territory in the West Bank may have temporarily receded, occupation continues to profoundly and negatively impact the lives, livelihoods, and human rights of the Palestinian people.
