A pesar de que vive tiempos difíciles a causa de la COVID-19, que ha llegado a la región de manera tardía, el Pacífico está determinado a promover la resiliencia con el objetivo de seguir sirviendo a sus comunidades e iglesias incluso mientras el virus afecta gravemente sus vidas.

Though they are facing challenging times with COVID-19 which reached their region late, the Pacific is determined to work on areas of resilience, in order to continue serving their communities and churches even as the virus severely affects their lives.

Taking into consideration the growing global concerns and implications of the current spread of COVID-19 (coronavirus), the World Council of Churches (WCC) will postpone its annual Ecumenical Continuing Formation on Youth seminar in the Pacific to the end of the year 2020, with a date to be announced. The event was scheduled for June 2020 in Tonga.
The WCC is taking steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including cancelling or postponing certain meetings and limiting travels.

“The invitation to a Pilgrimage of Justice and Peace has presented a new opportunity for reorienting our understanding of diakonia, and to join together ecumenically in our diaconal work,” said Rev. Dr Kjell Nordstokke, speaking to the World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee on 16 June.

Fiji President, Major-General (Retired) Jioji Konrote has urged the World Council of Churches (WCC) to support the Fiji Presidency at the 23rd Conference of Parties (COP23), the 2017 climate change conference in Bonn, Germany.

You are the first among all the member churches of the World Council of Churches around the world to greet the dawn of every new day and to praise God,” said World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit in a sermon delivered 6 August at the Centenary Chapel of the Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga in Nuku’alofa.

The general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC), Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, opened his ecumenical tour of the Pacific region on 29 July. Tveit will visit Maohi Nui (the French Polynesia) first, and he addressed the Synod for the Maohi Protestant Church. The WCC delegation will visit the region 29 July to 13 August.

El secretario general del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI), Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit, comenzó su viaje ecuménico por la región del Pacífico el 29 de julio. Anglican, Roman Catholic and Methodist Churches in Aotearoa New Zealand are forming an ecumenical entity to pursue closer ties and share understandings.

Qualities of the Pacific region – communal life, unbroken tradition of faith, work to combat injustice, deep scriptural grounding – are valuable contributions toward fulfilling the WCC call for a “pilgrimage of justice and peace”, said Rev. Dr Mele’ana Puloka, WCC president for the Pacific.

The WCC 10th Assembly in Busan, Republic of Korea, concluded on 8 November, acting to inspire churches to renew their commitments to justice and peace. Through varied encounters and dialogue within the fellowship of churches, the Assembly has made concrete decisions and recommendations setting priorities for the future work of the WCC.

La X Asamblea del CMI, celebrada en Busan, República de Corea, terminó el 8 de noviembre animando a las iglesias a renovar sus compromisos con la justicia y la paz. A través de múltiples encuentros y diálogos entre los miembros de la comunidad de iglesias, la Asamblea ha adoptado decisiones y recomendaciones concretas que establecen las prioridades para la labor futura del CMI.

La Asamblea del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias eligió ocho nuevos presidentes el lunes durante una sesión cerrada sólo con delegados en Busan, Corea del Sur. De acuerdo con la Constitución del CMI, el cometido de los presidentes es promover el ecumenismo y dar a conocer la labor del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias, especialmente en sus respectivas regiones. Los presidentes serán miembros ex officio del Comité Central.

The 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches elected eight new presidents today during a closed session at its proceedings in Busan, Republic of Korea.
