Der israelische Präsident Isaac Herzog hat den Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, am 20. Februar offiziell zu einem Besuch empfangen, um die aktuelle Situation in Israel und Palästina und den Krieg im Gazastreifen zu erörtern.

Der Generalsekretär des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK), Pastor Prof. Dr. Jerry Pillay, und seine Delegation haben sich am 18. Februar mit Scheich Azzam Khatib getroffen, dem Direktor der islamischen Waqf in Jerusalem, und den Grundsatz bekräftigt, dass Jerusalem eine Stadt der drei abrahamitischen Religionen ist.  

World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay and delegation met with Sheikh Azzam Khatib, director of Islamic Waqf in Jerusalem on 18 February, reiterating the WCC’s commitment to maintaining Jerusalem as a city of all three Abrahamic religions.

Nach Informationen des Griechisch-Orthodoxen Patriarchats stürzte das Gebäude – angegliedert an eine der ältesten Kirchen in Gaza – in einer Explosion durch israelische Raketenangriffe ein.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) is condemning an attack on one of the buildings within the compound of the St Porphyrios Greek Orthodox Church in Gaza. The building—affiliated with the church, which is one the oldest churches in Gaza—has collapsed in the explosion, caused by Israeli missile strikes, according to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate.

Vandalism targeting churches, cemeteries, and Christian properties in addition to physical and verbal abuse against Christian clergy have increased in the past months in the Holy Land, amid ongoing political tensions within Israeli society.
