Im Nachgang zum Studienprozess über alternative Globalisierung im Dienst von Menschen und Erde (AGAPE), der mit dem auf der 9. Vollversammlung des Ökumenischen Rates der Kirchen (ÖRK) in Porto Alegre 2006 vorgelegten AGAPE-Aufruf endete, rief der ÖRK ein Programm ins Leben, dessen Schwerpunkt darauf lag, die Armut abzuschaffen, der Anhäufung von Reichtum den Kampf anzusagen und die Integrität der Umwelt zu erhalten, und das auf dem Verständnis basierte, dass Armut, Reichtum und Umwelt (Poverty, Wealth and Ecology - PWE) eng miteinander verwoben sind. Das PWE-Programm nahm einen kontinuierlichen Dialog auf mit religiösen, wirtschaftlichen und politischen Akteuren. Zu den Teilnehmenden gehörten ökumenische Führungspersönlichkeiten, Vertreter und leitende Persönlichkeiten aus den Kirchen weltweit, interreligiöse Partner, politische Führungskräfte und soziale Einrichtungen aus einer Vielzahl von Regionen und Nationen der Welt. Regionale Studienprozesse und Konsultationen fanden statt in Afrika (Daressalam) 2007, in Lateinamerika und der Karibik (Guatemala Stadt) 2008, in Asien und im Pazifik (Chiang Mai) 2009, in Europa (Budapest) 2010 und in Nordamerika (Calgary) 2011. Das Programm gipfelte in einem globalen Forum und einer AGAPE-Feier in Bogor, Indonesien, 2012. Der nachfolgende Aufruf zum Handeln ist das Ergebnis eines sechsjährigen Konsultations- und regionalen Studienprozesses, der die Themen Armut, Reichtum und Umwelt miteinander verband.

As a follow-up to the Alternative Globalization Addressing People and Earth (AGAPE) process, which concluded with the AGAPE Call presented at the WCC 9th Assembly in Porto Alegre in 2006, the WCC initiated a programme focused on eradicating poverty, challenging wealth accumulation and safeguarding ecological integrity based on the understanding that Poverty, Wealth and Ecology are integrally related. The AGAPE Call to Action is the result of a six-year process of consultations and regional studies.

Between 6 -9 February 2012 a consultation exploring ‘Christian self understanding in the context of indigenous religions’ was convened at the Evangelical High School of Theological Studies (ISEDET), Buenos Aires, Argentina. The consultation was organised by the World Council of Churches’ Programme for Interreligious Dialogue and Cooperation, working in partnership with CLAI (the Latin American Council of Churches), and with valued assistance from FAIE (the Fellowship of Evangelical Churches in Argentina) and the Anglican Diocese of Argentina. The consultation was one of a series that the WCC has organised in recent years, exploring Christian self understanding in the context of a specific other religion or religious tradition.

Around 35 theologians and leaders representing communities, churches and organizations of indigenous peoples in 16 countries in many parts of the world attended a consultation from 21-26 October, 2008 in Baguio City, Philippines. This consultation was called in response to a proposal by the Ninth General Assembly of the WCC to facilitate the theological contributions of indigenous peoples to enrich the life and work of the WCC. In solidarity with the struggles of the largest indigenous peoples' population in Asia, Baguio City in the Philippines was chosen as the context for this theological conversation.

Alrededor de 35 teólogas, teólogos y líderes representando las comunidades, iglesias y organizaciones de pueblos indígenas en 16 países de muchas partes del mundo asistieron a la consulta organizada del 21 al 26 de octubre 2008, en la ciudad de Baguio, Filipinas. Esta consulta fue organizada en respuesta a la Novena Asamblea General del Consejo Mundial de Iglesias (CMI) que propuso la tarea de facilitar la contribución teológica de los pueblos indígenas para enriquecer la vida y trabajo del CMI. En solidaridad con las luchas de la numerosa población de pueblos indígenas en Asia, la ciudad de Baguio en Filipinas fue elegida para ser el contexto de esa conversación teológica.

Speaking on behalf of the World Council of Churches as well as indigenous church representatives from the Americas, Asia and Australia, William Chela presented a declaration at the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues calling for recognition of the right to life, not only for people, but for Mother Earth, too.
