What is God calling Christians and the Christian Church to do today? Whose and what voices are we listening to?” asked Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in his sermon at the ecumenical worship of the General Conference of the United Methodist Church (UMC) on 30 April, in Charlotte, North Carolina (US). 

The World Council of Churches (WCC), a global fellowship of 352 churches representing more than half a billion Christians from around the world, has been deeply involved in the work of the United Nations from as early as 1946 through its Commission of the Churches on International Affairs (CCIA). The WCC is a platform for common action by churches on issues that negate or threaten the dignity of all people.

Prof. Dr Ioan Sauca delivered a lecture during the first edition of the “Bahrain Dialogue Forum: East and West for Human Coexistence” held 3-4 November. Sauca’s lecture took place during a forum session entitled “Experiences of Promoting Global Coexistence and Human Fraternity.”

The World Council of Churches, at its 11th assembly, in Karlsruhe, Germany, abhors the perpetuation of all forms of racism, xenophobia and related discriminations against humanity and the pervasive suffering it causes. 

In a joint message on gender-based violence, sexual abuse, and faith communities, 26 World Council of Churches (WCC) Thursdays in Black ambassadors lament that the scourge of sexual and gender-based violence continues unabated—and call on faith communities to prevent such violence in their own spaces.

I wish first to thank Msgr. Indunil and all the contributors to this new volume on the import of the Christian Witness document.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) central committee, during its February 2022 meeting, approved a set of Gender Justice Principles that clearly define the WCC’s own approach to gender justice.

A Gender Advisory Group developed the principles through many rounds of review by leadership and staff, as an internal document for WCC staff, governing bodies, commissions, and reference groups.

On this International Women’s Day, we pray for a world free from bias, stereotypes and discrimination.
